Blinking, Touki looked back and forth between the two monks.

Finally, he cleared his throat. "It feels strange to give devotions to ancestors who may be coming to kill you." He said. "Glowing or otherwise."

"Exactly! They are unlikely to be actual ancestors, or, if they are, they certainly aren't ours, Akodo-sama. You are very wise, and further my own point."

"It is my belief that they have lost whatever claim that may have had to be ancestor by abandoning their proper duties when they fell to the spirit realms and off the Kharmic Wheel," says Kayou, as she brings out a pot of tea and cups.

"May I ask, if I wanted to deliver a letter to the one in charge of the shrine here, would that be you?" Kodama asks, finally, now that everyone seems to be in agreement.

And then he thinks about what was said a moment.

"Apologies Kayou-sama. Off the kharmic wheel? How is that possible?"

"The spirits we are fighting have succumbed to the . . . nature of that realm.,"says Kayou taking a sip of tea. "It is not so terrible a fall as to the Dark but they have left the cycle when they were consumed. This one does not know if they can be freed . . . but there is a Shrine to the Kami of Redemption here. Perhaps she would know."

He continues his frown, but does nod that those at the Shrine of Redemption might know more.

"Are they truly lost? Or are they simply condemning themselves to further time in Toshigoku, until their souls are light enough for another life?"

Touki frowned. "Monk-san." He bowed to Kayou. "It seems we keep running into each other."

He looked back and forth between the three monks that he suddenly found himself in a conversation with. Touki sighed. Well, sometimes you did find yourself outnumbered, after all.

"Being condemned to Toshigoku..." He began, still frowned. "Is that a dishonor? Or is it just... something that is?"

Kayou thinks. "It is what it is. It is a judgement, as this one understands, Emmo-o sends spirits who are consumed with blood lust at the time of their death there. It is possible, now they are here and free of that bloody realm, that they might be freed of that blood lust and allowed to return to the Khamic Wheel. But they would have to seek such and break away from the blood crazed rage that had dominated them for so long."

"We must ask the Kami of Redemption for aid in this. If anyone can show us a way to free them to a return to the Kharmic path, it is her."

"Well, strictly speaking, it is summer, despite the cold and snow remaining on the ground. But, possibly. Or perhaps we will blunt another of their charges, and then move again. As I said, I am not able to decide that sort of tactical thing. Or is it strategic? I am not sure."

Touki looked at her a moment, and then looked away with a sigh. "I hope they can. For a Lion, to be attacked by our ancestors, I can think of few things that would be harder. Knowing that they are trapped in another realm is hard enough."

He spread one hand. "I will still give my devotions. But it is different."

"It is going to be a trying time. A compassionate soul will see their plight and wish to act. The one who leads them however uses them because of the ways of Toshigoku. They would lead them astray if their rejoining the wheel would take away their power."

Touki grimaced. "Another blasphemy by the one who leads them, then."

He looked between the three monks again. "So, uh... you're Monks." He grimaced at how awkward that sounded. "The Empire... it seems to me to be a bit... disharmonious, I might say the word is, for the last few years." He spread his hands. "What do you think?"

Kayou nods. "Such is so, the harmony of the world is disrupted by the plots of the Dark and the melding of realms. This one works on securing the foundation for with a firm base, how can we find balance?"
