Chihaya wasn't about to let up, and from behind her smooth black lacquered mempo, her one eye blazed with a silent fury as she withdrew her blade, flicking it upwards in a vertical cut which caught the spirit woman as she stepped back, cleaving another deep cut into her chest.

Then, as if dancing to a tempo only she could hear, she pivoted, blade turning almost 270 degrees as she angled it for a sharp downward stroke which caught the second spirit as it began to attack, blunting the assault and drawing a splash of blood from the arm.

Her footwork pulled her away, only a single step, but enough to open a space to parry their follow on assaults (Voided armor TN this turn to 40)

The samurai Kayou wounded lunges forward, heedless of his own injuries as he slashes her across the chest, cutting through her armor to leave a painful gash. (Kayou suffers 18 damage, must pass a TN 18 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

The second samurai takes a step sideways, brings his blade up, and cuts into Kayou's back, dealing a seemingly mortal wound to the warrior nun. (Kayou suffers 28 damage, must pass a TN 28 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

Meanwhile, as Touki cuts down the samurai that looked like his late wife, the other Matsu takes advantage of his distraction and attempts to decapitate him with a mighty blow. (Touki suffers 31 damage, must pass a TN 31 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from his current position on his next turn.)

Kōgyoku's grandfather roars in anger as he rains another blow down upon his descendant. Her reflexes kick in, reduce it from a mortal wound to merely a deep gash. (Kōgyoku suffers 18 damage, must pass a TN 18 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

The woman recoils from Chihaya's strike, severely injured, and attempts to cut the sparrow in half, but the blow is stopped by Chihaya's armor. As Chihaya stumbles back from the blow, the other woman tries to decapitate her, but the Sparrow spins out of the way just in time.

Her grandfather staggers from the blow, but quickly recovers and spits blood onto the muddy ground. "In my day, Matsu hit like warriors, not Crane."

[Reduction 1, Spend Void to reduce first damage by 10, Heal 3 during reaction phase, total wounds 59, Crippled +17 to rolls due to Strength of Earth. No movement for me, not bothering with roll.]

Unfortunately, the blows have weakened her, and her counter attack fails.

On a sudden instinct, Touki twisted, grimacing as he felt the sword cut across his shoulder blade. He spun, attacking with a ferocity that surprised him, fighting through the pain.

As the first blow glanced off her breast plate, and then the second grazed the side of her kabuto, she twisted with the blows, digging in her heels.

Keeping her footing, she took her blade from where it was, held in low guard, and drove it up under the chin strap of the wounded bushi, and then ripped it out in a slash, pivoting as she stepped forward, blade tracing a bloody arc as she swung her blade down, and then up, slicing across the arms of the second, again disrupting the attack.

Her guard was not so complete as a moment ago, but these two Matsu were likely nearing a return to the realm of slaughter.

The first samurai drops to the ground, head rolling away from her body. The second manages to lean into the attack, letting her armor take the brunt of the damage as she grunts in pain.

She falls back, panting heavily, and then turns on Kōgyoku, intending to deal with the more exposed Matsu before she could become a problem. With a roar, she hacks into the Lion, dealing a painful wound.

"Yosh! Finish them!!" (Kogyoku suffers 16 damage, must pass a TN 16 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

Kōgyoku's grandfather screams back. "No! She's mine!" Grimacing in pain, his attack barely connects with the Matsu heroine, catching her across the face. Had he more strength left in him, it surely would have been a mortal wound.

(Kogyoku suffers 15 damage, must pass a TN 16 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

The injured samurai near Kayou roars as he lunges forward, knocking aside her naginata and running her through with his blade. "MATSU!" he screams.

(Kayou suffers 16 damage, must pass a TN 16 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from her current position on her next turn.)

The final samurai spits on her, then turns to face Touki, rainwater spilling down his face. "MATSU!" he screams, joining in with the battle cry as he comes toward the Akodo like a roaring animal. He slides in the mud as he draws near, hacking at Touki's legs as mud and water sprays in every direction.

(Touki suffers 27 damage, must pass a TN 27 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from his current position on his next turn.)

Wordlessly, Kayou falls. Her jingasa rolling across the muddy ground as her body splashes into a small puddle.

Never before had she killed kin, and one so close at that. But time to contemplate the gravity of it would be later. Only now did she notice that the abbes had already fallen and the others were seriously wounded. But as long as she was drawing breath, as long as the blood and sleet were not fully obscuring her vision, she would fight those who had a claim to being her kin but behaved as anyone but.

Pain. There was so much of it. But Touki was no stranger to pain. He knew it was only for a little while.

What had he said to that Unicorn? Wait, no, now she was a Yasuki. Practice an attack ten-thousand times, until you can do it no matter the circumstances.

Touki's motions had slowed, and he couldn't twist around into a second attack, but his form was still beautiful as he cut into his opponent.

The Matsu that had been lording over Touki, preparing to finish him, staggers backwards from the strength of his blow, only barely managing to survive it.

This honorless cur had the nerve to turn her back on Chihaya mid battle?

That. Was. Unacceptable.

With a hiss of fury she leveled her blade and then thrust it firmly through the back of the honorless Matsu's neck. She didn't stop to check her kill as she moved on, trying to save the now badly wounded Kayou.

Sadly, retrieving her blade left her off balance on the uneven, slick ground. As she moved to the other two enemies, taking a swing, she fell just short, her body seizing up to keep her balance as she hit a slick patch.

(move to middle of melee)

The samurai staggers forward, somehow still standing despite Chihaya's blow. She staggers forward, blood streaming down her body as she lifts her weapon in heavy hands and brings it down... an inch from Kōgyoku. The strain simply seemed to be too much for her.

Another staggered forward and swung at Touki, but his blade was simply too heavy in his hands, and the strike went wide.

"Fools," grumbled the third surviving Matsu. He pushed away from Kayou and stomped up toward Touki. He shoved the Akodo with one hand, then effortlessly slid his blade through his side, between the plates of Touki's armor. When he pulled his blade free, it was covered in blood.

(Touki suffers 17 damage, must pass a TN 16 Willpower Roll, ignoring wound penalties, or be unable to move from his current position on his next turn.)
