The larger creature slithers forward, moving across the ice without hindrance. As it draws near, it lashes out with its tentacles, knocking Norikami aside and wrapping its oily appendages around Aya. The tentacles wrap tightly around her, binding her limbs and squeezing tightly.

The creature's strangely human-like face twists into an expression of glee at having caught the woman in its serpentine clutches.

The two smaller creatures, meanwhile, struggle to move forward, but the mud is holding their feet tightly.

Aya was genuinely surprised with how fast that tree could move on ice. She was maybe slightly regretting her decision to not call the kami to weight down the tree too.

Resisting the taint, no jade assist: 31 vs. 15

Aya did not want to be grabbed by this thing, really she didn't, and she tried her damnest to not be. But while she might be tough, smart, arrogant, and stubborn....really really strong was not her.

Str/Jiu: 18 vs. 20 fail.

Yukinaga shouts as the tentacles wrap around Aya his bow is dropped and his katana is out in a flash of steel. He growls as he lunges at the tentacles wrapped around the shugenja. Despite his best efforts the katana fails to connect with the writhing tentacles.

It never goes how it's supposed to. Aya just had to get close when he told her to back away.

He snarled and fired an arrow at the beast, advancing to cut it down next turn. Maybe he was too pissed to shoot true, but the mass of tentacles blocked the arrow just barely.

"How does it die, Yogo-san?" he yelled. They needed to know what they were dealing with.

The shugenja called forth once more for the power of the Earth, but as he did his call, a cold sweat fell through his back and his voice trembled. His spell failed and nausea built up inside of him by the stench of the creature and the intense fear that kept on whispering in his ear.

Things had rarely gone this bad, this quickly. Aya had seriously underestimated the opponent. The bushi had forgotten their weapons training, and the Lion shugenja decided to try this trendy new purging diet.

Aya made one last desperate attempt to escape the grip of the monster....but the ice, and the creature's strength proved to be too much for her.

Aya had thought the Heavens cruel for taking her family away from her, while she struggled on. Now she could see Emma-O's spear coming for her. It would not be too much longer, and she would be back with her family.

The creature slithers closer, its tentacles pushing it easily across the ice and snow. It lifts Aya up into the air, squeezing her tightly. It turns its gaze downward toward Yukinaga, grinning widely as it slams its arm into the bushi with a sickening crunch. The tentacles of its arm twist backwards, wrapping around the bushi like lengths of thick rope.

Yukinaga shrugged off both the trained influence and the tentacles of the beast. Gritting his teeth at the pain he slashed forward his katana slashing into the mass of tentacles.

Yukinaga feels a great deal of resistance as he cuts into the tentacle-monster, almost as if he were trying to cut through brick. The strength of his strike is such that he hacks away a number of tentacles, however, causing the breast to release an ear-splitting screech of pain.

Bow cast aside, Norikami drew his nodachi faster than a sword that large had any business doing and a heart beat dash later struck the beast in a flash of angry.

Norikami severs the monster's arm, dropping Aya to the ground amidst a mass of squirming tentacles. Surprisingly, the tentacles didn't seem to be bothered by their severance and continued trying to wrap themselves around Aya and force their way into her mouth, but she's able to beat them away without much effort.

(Aya is Prone but no longer Grappled.)

The creature screeches once again, but it seemed unaffected by the poison on Norikami's blade.

The Spear stopped. It was still there, it could still strike Aya, but Norimaki had bought her perhaps one more moment. One more decision to make in her life. Run? On this ice against the usain bolt of tainted tree monsters? If she ran, maybe Norimaki could buy her escape. What a stupid way to die. She might not be a Lion, but her life was not going to end as a mouse for this ugly cat.

Instead, she got up, faced the tentacle tree, and withdrew a paper ward and affixed it to herself. The fire kami were released from their paper cell and surrounded Aya with their heat and light. If she was going to die to this monster, she was going to burn all the way down.

Fires of Purity Ward activated. 2k2 fire damage against opponents Aya makes a melee attack against, or if opponents make a melee attack against Aya for the next 10 rounds.

The tentacle creature recoils from Aya as she bursts into flame, and the tentacles surrounding her on the ground scatter as well, inch-worming their way away from her as quickly as possible.

It twists around, slamming its remaining arm into Norikami, its tentacles wrapping around him and squeezing him tightly.

Yuki grimaced behind his mempo looking at the monster before them. He knew if he took another hit like that he would start to be hindered by his injuries. The thing was tough and hard to pierce but it could be hurt and he would do as much damage to it as he could.

He roared as he charged the creature, a roar some might have confused for a lion charging into battle but the blade work was unmistakably scorpion. His blade swung high but with a last minute shift in his stance the blade struck low and bit into the lower part of the beast.

They might be in over their heads but they would leave this monster with Mark's to remember them by.

The blade passes entirely through the tentacle beast. It screeches in pain as it begins to fall over, but tentacles from the top and bottom halves of it lash together, pulling it back together as it flails about with its remaining arm, small tentacles flying off in every direction.

It did not look very happy at all.
