Kayou disrobes and puts her new jingasa up high while setting a much smaller one down on top of her robes. She dutifully cleans herself before sliding into the warm waters to relax.

Kin had slept earlier, to take in all that he had learned that day. It wasn't as though it were so much that he couldn't handle it, but it was enough that he wanted to reflect on it before bed then wake up and go over it again in his mind.

Now that he was awake, he thought it would be pleasant to do so in the baths, likely far less populated and so he would not get in anyone's way.

After washing, he made his way to a pool to soak. He nodded to the woman there, so she didn't think he was some anti-social person that was only there so late to avoid people. But he also didn't want to disturb her if she was trying to relax by herself.

"It was a needlessly brutal attack on the people of the empire, and a treacherous murder of our emperor. It disgusted me that ancestors of our people would do such a thing, especially unprovoked. I witnessed the deaths of more than a few people that either couldn't or refused to fight back. The images will forever be present in my mind. I would have stayed to fight and save more, but I came across two young children who lost their parents in the attack, one of which was too small to walk in the snow. The terror they endured is probably the only reason I survived, as I felt driving urge to get them away from it," he say, giving the short of his experience.

"Those children are very lucky you found them," says Kayou, "from what she has heard, which may be exaggeration, that none left in the city were spared. Have you found the children a safe place here?"

"I placed them with a family and gave them food and some coin to help support them through the next year," he says with a nod.

"And that was no exaggeration. They were attacking everyone they came across. I was thrown from the second story of the building during the initial confusion. The other two that had been with me were not so fortunate."

"We do what we can to aid those in need," he confirms with the abbess. "And we must prepare for the worst. This sequence of events is far from over and it will send ripples throughout the empire."

"May this one ask how your clan is coping with life in the Shinomen? It would not seem well suited to rice paddies or other grains. What do you grow to sustain yourselves?" she asks.

"The Shinomen provides some fruits and berries through foraging. Most of our staples come from trade of wood and other materials we can collect from the forest. We get some fish and bird as well, though not much. Some small plots of land have been cleared so that we can begin basic farming. The soil from the cleared land is actually quite fertile, there simply is not much of it."

Kayou nods. "This one's Order is focus on helping farmers farm in the best ways possible using appropriate crops to the area they are in. Perhaps we might be able to establish a chapter house in Piranha lands to aid you in these tasks."

"That is beyond the scope of my power to decide, but I can bring a request for such to Ryuuta-dono. We have few Brotherhood monks in our lands with how new our clan is, so I can imagine it would be viewed favorably. It does a great deal to ease burdens on the heimin with an organized shrine or temple around. It sounds like your order would be even more welcomed by them," Kin says with a nod.

Kayou bows her head. "This one would be most grateful. It is . . . challenging to build a new Order. Though this one knows that the Order of Harmonious Work will help the Empire, it has been difficult to get the support to spread our teachings."

"Well, many Brotherhood monks being retired samurai likely doesn't make it any easier. If a samurai grows old enough to retire they likely don't have pain free joints needed for working fields," he says with a chuckle.
