Freezing rain beat down on the countryside as four brave samurai set out to hunt down an unknown monster...

The shugenja woke early and was set for hunting as the day dawned. He gave a prayer to the fortunes to guide him, to favor him in name of peace. Despite the weather, the lion was sure that there would be little complications if the fortunes listened and favored him.

Despite his best efforts, Norikami needed more rest. When the Lion took to the task very seriously, he was glad. It meant he didn't have to worry that he wasn't looking at anything clearly.

He felt nice and toasty in the straw snow boots and heavier cloak he got himself the other day.

Fortunately for the group, Shukei manages to find the corpse uncovered by the hunting party the day before. It's covered in a layer of ice, courtesy of the freezing rain, and the tracks have been mostly obscured, but he's able to follow them deeper into the forest.

Half an hour later, the perceptive Lion notices vague shapes ahead, little more than silhouettes in the rain. There are two... no, three of them, two humanoid and one that was easily twice as large as a human.

(Initiative, Stances, and Armor TN).

Fear 3: At the beginning of combat, each character must test against Fear 3 (Willpower TN 20, character may add their Honor Rank to the total; those who fail suffer -3k0 on their rolls, and those that fail by 15 or more flee from the encounter).

(The enemy begins the battle 60 ft. away. Anyone attempting to move further than 20 ft. in a round must pass a TN 15 Athletics (Running)/Agility test; on a failure, the character slips on the ice and cannot move.)

Yuki wasnt sure what he was seeing as the icy tendrils of fear threatened his heart. With some effort he called upon his honor and his inner will to banish the fear trying to take hold and the pulled up his bow ready to fire at whatever menaced them in the woods. But waiting to see what it was first.

The shugenja guides them with ease and then slows down as the tracks become fresher until.... "there."

The shugenja steps back a bit, leaving the rest to lead. "I will support you."

He adopts a defensive stance as he prepares to call forth the power of magic.

The larger creature notices the group first. As it approaches, the group can make out a hideous body, some twelve feet tall, composed entirely of writhing tentacles. It motions with a tentacle-arm, sending the smaller creatures -

- tentacle-infested zombies - shuffling toward the group.

Norikami strung his bow and read the creature's movements as he stayed defensive near Aya. He knew she'd be prepping to fight.

"Move back a little, they might be quick", he warned, and did just that.

Aya sneered as Norikun.

"Quick you say?".

While the men fell back and clutched each other for comfort from the scary monsters (at Least in Ayavision), she ignored Norikun and walked towards them.

(10' ft free action move. Range to monsters: 50')

Instead of pulling out a scroll, she intoned the words that she had committed to heart, and made the gestures she had in countless hunts.

She reached out to the earth kami residing within the two smaller shamblers, Yuki and Zess, and called upon them to weigh them down, to hinder their every step,

The kami were quick to heed the words of the Yogo, and the two shamblers were much less quick now.

Earth's Stagnation on the two smaller shamblers. For the next 6 rounds, their water ring is considered 1 lower for the purposes of calculating movement and they suffer a -2k0 penalty on all rolls using agility.

The two shuffling zombie things slow down considerably as the muddy ground seems to rise up and cling to their legs.

The shugenja open his Earth scroll and started the chanting aiming for the larger creature in the back with the purity of the magic of earth. He had a general idea of the nature of the creature enough to know what might harm him.

After feeling the pure magic run through him towards his target, the samurai moved back away from the creature to a space that would keep him at distance and safe to cast. (Moving maximum free action, water x5 feet, +15 feet away, distance 75)
