Following heated discussion on discord, there is some disagreement on military status: eg, the existence of a status 4 military rank.

In light of that, GM insight may be required. As a Status 4 military samurai because of promotion following Naga War - I had found Shoi as a term to represent 2nd Lt, this being reasonable as a 'junior Chui' position which is a 1st Lt. in modern terms.

If this is inaccurate, what is the appropriate title/position for status 4 in a military context, does it matter, etc, could just use a quick call on that so I can amend my position if needed. (As I'm the only status 4 character currently in a position to be affected by it).

I don't think that a Status 4 military position officially exists, so Shoi works well enough for that purpose.

There are a few of us heading out in this thread to try to contrive some relief for the refugees who weren't able to get into the city, so...

Other people's outside-the-walls scouting adventures have mentioned woods/forest. Is it near enough that we can gather some poles and brush to construct some simple brush hut/wigwam style survival shelters?

I don't suppose there's much edible to forage...?

There's enough to feed a few people, but certainly not enough to put a dent in the refugee situation.

Sure. There shouldn't be any issue with gathering brush. Go with a TN 15 Craft: Woodworking or Carpentry/Intelligence to make it into a passable shelter. On a failure, it's still a lean-to that will work for like, one person.

Probably a few, but nothing fancy or very well organized. A mahjong game in a low-rent sake house, dice in a quiet alleyway, etc.

Is there another castle down the road, maybe not in a perpetual snow storm, that we could move the excess on to without killing them if they get some rest and food first?

There are probably some hunters and gatherers, but given that most of the refugees are heimin, there's not a lot of kami-talking going on there.
