"For now, if honored Bayushi Sukekage-sama, honored Matsu Chinatsu-sama, if you would both allow me to take my leave I will do what work I may."

"I suppose I'll do the same," Sukekage says, looking around at the huddled masses. "Or perhaps I should offer myself as an escort, Matsu-san? With this many people around - people of unknown quality, at that - it may not be safe to travel alone..."

Chinatsu bowed to the Togashi, "Of course, Togashi-san. I wish the Fortune's guidance for you in your efforts."

Chinatsu glanced at the Scorpion, her eyes making it clear that she thought she needed no escort and at least slightly resented the notion that she might need one. But I do wonder what he is up to...

"Very well, Bayushi-sama. It is not terribly long of a walk, but I would be happy for your company."

"I don't recall seeing you among the wave of samurai refugees from Morikage Toshi," he notes, "so I can assume you're living in the city? Or perhaps, like me, a recent arrival hoping to do some good?"

Chinatsu considered the Scorpion. "I was stationed here over the Winter, hai. I had been planning on heading back home before the news arrived and I decided to stay."

He pauses briefly, looking around the area before continuing.

"Where is 'home', if I might ask?"

Taking her leave, for the moment, Mai walked among those many peoples and endeavored to listen to what stories they would supply her with. Seeing which and who she might be able to help, and perhaps in what avenue her happenstance-companions might even aid.

Chinatsu stopped dead in her tracks at the comment and stared hard at the Bayushi. When she spoke, her voice was ice cold. "Bayushi-sama may be interested to know that I have faced down a Yuki no onna and have assisted those who battled the Naga."

Her eyes narrowed dangerously as her left hand clenched into a fist. "I am not some coyly blushing Shosuro or naive traipsing Doji. I am a Matsu. I agreed to have you walk with me on the assumption that you had something important to say, if that is not the case I can find my own way back to the castle, thank you."

Chinatsu bowed to the Scorpion and moved away from him without any interest in what he may say in response.

"Yet another prickly one," Sukekage says quietly to himself, sighing. "This is going to become very, very tiresome ere the end of this. If there are many more who would prefer strife over attempts at peaceful interactions, I may have to take some more...drastic action."

The majority of the refugees seemed to be heimin, primarily workers at Morikage Tosho or villagers and farmers from nearby settlements. Most of the samurai seem to have migrated to the castle, but here and there Mai can catch a glimpse of bandaged ronin slumped against the wall of a shack or yelling at the heimin in a futile attempt to force some semblance of order upon them.

Sukekage doesn't quite /exit yet, actually - instead, he wanders seemingly aimlessly through the streets, occasionally stopping to talk to any of the huddled masses willing to interact with him.

"Is anyone taking charge in the camps? Some would-be leaders?"

"Are supplies and food getting to you? No interruptions, no hoarders?"

"No one's been hassling you, have they?"

Mai was not a healer, that was something that was at the front of her mind and yet she naturally would gravitate in the direction of the wounded or troubled ronin instead of the masses of those who are far more often forgotten. Called forward by a memory she would approach, and help, if there was any way in which she might.

Miwako walked among the refugees, looking for anyone wounded or otherwise in greater need of assistance. There were so many and she wondered what she might be able to do to help more.

The Hilsilage is still here, putting the finishing touches on houses and trying his best to put a brave face on everything. He comes around the corner of the makeshift residences to see some samurai assisting.

"Good evening. How are all of you settling in? I know, you are all very hungry. I too would be if I had come through your ordeal. We have found a little food."

He distributes what he has found, but it comes up quite short.

"Oh, good evening. I am called the Hilsilage." He bows to the samurai.

The Hilsilage jumps with a start as a peasant child grasps the end of his tail.

"Still, good has been done here."

"I am certain I can find one, the people of the village have been most generous."
