[D2 EA] - Practicing (Open)

Mogami takes a step back to give the two space and motions for her budoka to watch. They stand next to her with their practice spears lazy at their side, grateful for the respite of the drilling.

The Matsu's eyes go back to the Daidoji, and they soften considerably. These two shared an understanding of strength, combat, and the essence of saying as little as possible, or so she believed. Kindred spirits.

Without a word, Misaki grabs a bokken, slips into a stance, and gives the Daidoji a nod that she's ready.

Why speak when their bodies could do the talking?

Tetsuko slowly changed her grip and stepped closer to Misaki. Her footwork was excellent after years of training. The audience became part of the scenery, although with soft eyes she kept track of their positions.

She focused her gaze on the Matsu, taking note of her spirit and likely mode of attack. Lion vs Crane, the age old story. The bokken moved slowly as she took up a new posture. It was almost inviting...

Misaki is not the most focused or appraising person at the best of times, but a certain calm comes over her before a fight.

She begins to assess her opponent. She sees Tetsuko's stance, the calm with which she holds her arms, and then her eyes... she gets a bit lost in her eyes.

Ah the Matsu, like a predator ready to pounce. It was beautiful really. Tetsuko held her nerve, noticing a moment's hesitation in the other woman's spirit.

Was it a opening or a feint though?

She was about to find out...

Only by watching her eyes so closely did Misaki see the shift in them. They had taken on a new tone... her opponent was readying for the strike.

She was unbalanced, though, and had not prepared correctly. She attempted to draw on her own inner calm, as it seems the Crane did, but found she had none.

Foolishly, her eyes flicked to Mogami, and she immediately realized she'd doubly lost her focus.

[OOC: Lost the contested duel by 10, so Tetsuko gets a free raise]

The bokken whipped out with surprising speed and a purity of spirit. It caught Misaki cleanly on the right side of her chest. If this had not been a friendly contest it would have done serious damage, but Tetsuko displayed great skill and the bokken delivered no more than a hard tap.

She continued trough the move, which placed her behind and off to the Matsu's side. Her eye retained their soft focus. Misaki could always come after her, but effort would be required.

In her experience with Matsu the balance between honour and rage was a delicate one.

Tetsuko was prepared for either outcome.

The Matsu lets out a low growl, but doesn't move. She is clearly fighting her desires.

The words are slipping out through her gritted teeth, like a bad hand puppet being controlled by an even worse puppeteer.

Tetsuko bowed respectfully to her opponent. "It is always an honour to spar with the fierce and powerful bushi of the Lion Clan. Thank you Matsu-sama." A second bow was offered to Mogami for her compliment.

"Would you care to work together on some drills Matsu-sama?" Single training routines and forms were all to the good, but having a stronger opponent to work with was far more exhilarating.

Misaki takes a deep breath. It almost worked.

She looked at the Crane. There was something about her... she was no Homura, but she could serve as a good way to warm up.

"That would be pleasant, Daidoji-san."

That was something of a relief. One could never be certain that a Matsu would not take the opportunity to feel insulted. The woman's gaze was noted but she did not comment on it.

"Kenjutsu?"

The Matsu nods and falls into a stance.

***Training montage begins***
Tetsuko and Misaki trade the role of attacker and defender for a time. The air in the room starts to heat up from the exertion. The age old struggle of Iron Crane vs Matsu Berserker, but with slightly less murderous intent.

Strike, deflect, strike. The sound of wood on wood echoes around the dojo.

Eventually they reached a natural pause.

"Thank you Matsu-sama. That was a most excellent session." She offered the ferocious Lion a polite bow.

The Matsu bows, glistening with sweat.

"Far better a session than some in my family could have offered."

"I am flattered, Matsu-sama. Perhaps we can do this again at some point?" She looked around at the other occupants of the dojo. Perhaps the archer still wished to spar with her cousin.

"I should put in some time with my long weapon forms. If you will excuse me?" Another bow and Tetsuko walked over to inspect the collection of training polearms.

Mogami had returned to drilling her Budoka and finished another round shortly after Tetsuko and Misaki concluded theirs.

"If anyone would care to join us, I have set up a range outside to practice Kyujutsu."
