"If the enemy is as Kitsu-dono has said it is, they will not attempt to siege but instead assault our Eastern gate without relenting. This should leave the Western gate less harassed and able to send out forays, but I am going to request the gates be shut and barred as soon as possible. My own tactics tell me we cannot allow many more inside our walls before tipping the favor of Inari to far."

Kayou nods. "This one hopes you are right. While defeating a determined set of assaults will be costly, a siege would be far more destructive."

She motions to her two budoka

"I have taken to training my men and it has been quite the rewarding experience"

"There are bandits and wild animals to fight, Matsu-san," says Kayou. "But, no, we do not get a lot of combat experience. Training and kata have to do for preparation for combat. But we are all physically fit, much hard work is required to keep the fields."

Mogami gives a small smile.

"Perhaps one day if I have more under my command, you and your order can teach them of your ways, and I can show them some of mine."

She feels another strong pull inside her at the words and pauses for a moment, hew smile turning into a frown.

"Should I be given permission to take time away from my duties, that would be lovely. Though I see no reason why we cannot use our time together here as well. My men know only the little bits of the Tao now, and I myself am not studied as Leadership instead has been my guide."

After a fitful night of sleep, Hachi finally makes his greeting to Lady Sun, and to the Dragons.

He gives a general bow to those in the Temple, but focuses his own worship on the Dragon of Earth this day.

"Leadership is an excellent guide for a warrior, this one has several copies back at her Order's house," says Kayou. "The Tao is a more general guide to living. It is for finding one's place among an every changing universe."

"This one is happy to teach. Shall we start at the beginning?"

"Before we begin, I do have to ask, why do so many people avoid its teachings, especially from our clan? When people see how I treat my men, especially when they learn I have taught them basic literacy and give them good food, clothing, food, and equipment, or when I bring them to court to witness how a samurai acts, I get strange looks and scoffs. I heard the Tao says one should treat others well, much like the tenant of Compassion, yet many do not agree."

"Not yet, Suzume-sama, but that is normal for me. I try to rise early so that I may greet my ancestors either in the temple or at the dojo for the day. Plenty of time for food afterwards, neh?" she replied presently.

"I feel such routines may become a grounding point for me in what I assume will be a tumultuous few days. But what is this of your recovery?" Chiyo asked, a note of concern edging her voice.

"In leadership, the chapter titled Good and Evil:"

'Shinsei says, “Nature does not recognize good and evil.”

But I tell you now that men do recognize the difference, and to ignore the way of the world and hope it to be a better place than it is.'

"Unless I have failed to memorize Leadership correctly, that is the only mention of Shinsei or the Tao in Akodo-no-Kami's written work."
