'' Yes...'' Nagiko nods when answering Kashiwagi's question but then she wonders about something...

'' Well, to be sincere, not quite. Asako-sama.'' Nagiko sounds a bit distressed. '' I was wounded yesterday during the night.'' She told him. There was no external trace of her being wounded, Nagiko looks fine.

'' Perhaps you could offer some council to this one about it...'' She said to him.

"Someone broke into your room and hurt you?" Or was this of a more supernatural nature?" he responded.

'' Supernatural in nature...'' She said to him.

'' You see, this is somewhat a secret, but if there's anyone i could trust in knowing about this it is you, Asako-sama.'' She said.

'' I was born with a strange ability. I don't know how it happens but when i concentrate and meditate for some time, i can separate what i think is my spirit from my body...'' She was telling him about her medium ability.

'' And i can explore what i think are other realities.'' She adds. '' These events were rare at the beggining, but as i grew older i can somewhat control where i want to go and how i act inside those other strange worlds, full of spirits.''

'' I can see them, though they don't appear to notice that i'm a ningen, except if i tell them directly''

“You have a rare connection to the Spirit Realms, this is not unknown to the Phoenix and me in the specific,” he said casually.

“Your spirit went into these distant realms and encountered an aggressive entity, and was wounded, yes? Explain your encounter, last night.”

'' I will try my best, though what i experience in such an event is different from what my normal ningen-do experiences are...'' She said to him.

'' After i concentrate for some time, my spirit separates itself from my body. There's somewhat a lure to the realm that i know by Sakkaku. It is a strange and wonderful place at the same time, if i could describe it, it looks like a vast untouched forest, with strange things happening...'' She began explaining.

'' There are rivers that flow backwards and loop in the skies, falls which instead go upwards, strange noises, strange colors, etc.''

'' Once i'm there, i can mold myself into anything i wish, though my usual appearance is similar to one of a, how to say, to a cat. Or a human with cat ears.''

'' There i met with a spirit, a cat spirit, which knows that i'm a human. This spirit sometimes is friendly and teach me things, though i can only perform them as a spirit, as a human don't have such abilities. Most of the times it just ask me about how is to be a human.'' She told him about Asahime.

'' It wanted me to trick some spirits that i know from folklore called kappa, but i didn't know how to, so it attacked me saying they are lured by blood.'' She explained. '' I don't think this spirit was doing something to really hurt me, this is the first time since i met it, but i'm not knowgeable enough about spirits to know if there's any spiritual malady or disease that could linger inside my body or soul...''

''There's no external wound, but when i returned i felt the pain inside me. After resting for the night, i somewhat recovered, though i still feel a bit hurt.''

“Trickster spirits are not inherently violent but not benign other, they can be dangerous because their pranks can often be fatal or have unintended side effects they don’t consider because they lack a complete understanding of mortality,” he said.

“I do not think it intended to hurt you directly but it probably thought the minor pain you would suffer would be worth the amusement of the prank, I differ on that but these are the ways of the trickster spirits. Did it name itself?” he finished.

'' It is called Asahime. Or at least that is the name she identify with.'' She told the truth, there was no reason to lie about Hime-chan.

'' So, if i understand correctly, my soul is probably fine?'' This was the first time Nagiko got hurt in the other realms so, she was kinda worried.

“Yes, unless this spirit is tied to Jigoku you should be fine, but just to be safe I want you to see Isawa Miwako at your earliest convenience, she is both a medium like yourself and skilled in healing. She will be expecting you,” he said, already mentally adding that task to his list.

“Have you had continued contact with this Asahime?”

'' As it comes. She is always there when i separate my body, and she acts like a mother to me, or at least that is the feeling i get when i'm with her in my spiritual form.'' The truth.

'' Though it appears it only follows me when i separate my body and go to other realms...'' That was a lie. Nagiko did not want to be separated from Asahime. Not yet....

He made a note to find some time to research this creature and then said, "Well she sounds protective for a trickster spirit. Sometimes spirits of certain realms are drawn to mortal lineages, especially those that have ties to the spirit realms," he responded.

He did not press on the lie, not that he knew it a lie, he just didn't care.

'' I see '' The fact that the Asako mentioned that Asahime, could be protecting her, even though she attacked her, kind of soothed her heart.

'' Well, i'm glad that you are here, Asako-sama, to explain and talk it about it.'' She said to him as she moved a bit. '' If you could arrange a meeting with Isawa Miwako-sama, i will be honored.'' Nagiko's kimono slightly got misaligned, revealing a bit of her shoulder. It was not on purpose, of course.

"Do you only travel to the world of tricksters or have you seen other realms?" he asked, politely ignoring her slight malfunction.

'' Hmmm, I have only travelled to Sakkaku. I don't know if i could travel to other spiritual realms'' She said and shrugs.

'' I guess i could, though i have never tried it.''

“I would advise you speak with Isawa Miwako before doing so, she has experience with this,” he said in a cautionary tone.

“That is my advice on the matter at least.”

“Ah,” he said tapping the table as if to say more and then said, “Of course, I appreciate the gifts. I am sure my honored wife will be pleased with the silks, and think favorably of the Mantis.”

Well as favorably as one can of pirates but it wasn’t a lie. He rose and escorted her to the door, “Your presence was a surprise but a warm one.”

She stopped just a few after walking a few steps. She turned around, took her fan out to hide her features and a some of her mouth

'' ~And i hope the discomfort on your shoulders has disappeared~ '' She whispered and then continued on.

Kashiwagi watched her go before sliding the door closed. He returned to his seat and began writing, no rest for the hero, he had somehow offended a Scorpion daimyo, but to be honest she seemed to be looking for offense bfe she even arrived which seemed an odd turn from the morning but it mattered not her ego was fragile and it was time to appease it to at least keep the peace.

Back to work.

Writing an apology was dumb, screw the Scorpion. He disposed of the carefully written letter and instead pulled out his paints and decided to pain… he pulled to his mind with some artistic flair a work of art… well he thought so, but he did like how his homage to Horonigai turned out.

It was passable.
