After organizing the rabble, he was back in his chambers and had more tea brought, a local blend that should give a hint of sweetness and some alertness. He adjusted his colors, still dark but with a hint of Scorpion motif in the color scheme, just for appearances.

He had set up the painting to the left of the low table, covered so he could unveil it. Drama and presentation were important, or so Chidori explained to him. He had to agree that having a flair for the dramatic was useful.

He waited patiently for the Scorpion to make her presence known.

There are a few muffled voices beyond the door, then a male voice speaks up. "Shosuro Uruwashii, visiting Asako Kashiwagi."

Kashiwagi was ready to meet the Shosuro daimyo, he rose to receive her.

Shosuro Uruwashii carefully enters the room, her gloved hands folded in front of her. "Asako Kashiwagi. You requested an audience with me?" She looks around the room, quietly inspecting it with an unchanging expression. "Do you often host women in your room so late into the evening?" There was a hint of judgment to her voice.

“I host samurai of worth at any hour of the day as a humble servant of the Empire, gender plays no role in such decisions,” he said calmly.

“You wished to speak and my time is limited, apologies if it seems unseemly. If you have need of a chaperone, one can be summoned, Shosuro-sama,” he added politely with genuine concern for appearances.

“I only assumed you wanted privacy for what may need to be discussed.”

Behind her mask, Uruwashii's eyebrow raises slightly. "Gender always has a role, Asako-san. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar or a fool."

"However, I was unaware that your time is so valuable. I will leave you to your more important guests."

With that, the Shosuro daimyo turns and opens the door, stepping outside to return to her yojimbo.

“Apologies, then and you are an important guest, which is why I am making time for you, specifically, Shosuro-sama. It is important that we all work together in these dark times and I wanted to reach out to the Scorpion to do that, my only concern is the empire,” he said watching her go with contrition.

“It is not my point to make offense, only to form links so we can all work together. I have even prepared a gift for you, Lady Shosuro.”

Uruwashii spoke a few quiet words to her yojimbo. He glanced back at Kashiwagi, his expression unreadable behind his mempo, and then the two of them headed down the hallway, leaving Kashiwagi alone in his room.

Once she is gone he has them close the door and sighed for a moment and then shrugged, she wanted to meet and if she is so hung up on appearances then she won’t be useful to the cause. He would send a letter later, this is where Chidori could have taken the lead but such is life.

He sat back down and started reading more research. He glanced at the painting of his wife and added, “Don’t look at me like that!”

“Fine… I’ll do the letter now,” he sighed and got to work.

But such work could probably had to be postponed for a while since someone unexpected was coming to interrupt the inquisitor's letter writting.

A sudden, gently scratch on the tatami door could be heard.

'' Asako-sama. Forgive me if i'm interrupting you. It is Nagiko.'' The feminine voice of Nagiko could be heard from the other side.

'' I can return another day if you are busy, Asako-sama'' She adds.

His first thought was to go… who? Then a second later he remembered the Mantis and he frowned and then pondered just sending her away. No.

The Scorpion would not ruin his mood, he was Asako Kashiwagi, a living legend. She was forgotten when placed beside his magnificent ego, and the Mantis did mend his sore shoulders. After another moment he set down his writing implement and said, “Enter.”

Nagiko opened the tatami door gently. She was already sitting on seiza outside of it, wearing her richly made pink kimono. She was only carrying her wakizashi around her obi. A gentle sweet fragance invade the room as Nagiko's rare perfume spreads through the inquisitors' room. A scent that could not be obtained from any known plants from the mainland.

The young mantis bowed in seiza just outside the door. Apparently she was also carrying two other items currently covered in some wraps that she put right in front of her.

'' Forgive me for disturbing your time of relaxation, Asako-sama'' She slowly entered the room, clearly demostrating her good training in courtier-ish movements. Nagiko took out her wakizashi and left it right next to her on her right, with the hilt pointing towards her back.

She waited to be acknowledged

"Make yourself comfortable, no need to stand on ceremony," he said with a dismissive gesture.

'' I see...'' She said and relaxed her posture a bit as the Asako told her to do.

'' Well, as i said yesterday, i have some of my clan's specialties in my possession and Asako-sama shown interest in my homeland, so i thought that perhaps these could be, if a rather small, but good way for Asako-sama to become a bit more familarized with our Islands '' Nagiko pointed towards the two wrapped items.

'' I will be most honored if Asako-sama could accept these'' She said to him.

Kashiwagi was almost flippant but a glance to his wife’s picture and he responded calmly, “I would feel remiss to accept such a thing when so many must go without, Nagiko-san. There must be someone who could benefit more from this.”

The first refusal was given.

'' The work that has been put into obtaining these two items...'' She took her fan and with it pointed to the gifts'' ...pales in comparison to the deeds that Asako-sama must face each and every day in service of his duties. Comparing the two is not even possible, as Asako-sama's life ensures that these could be created in the first place, by protecting all of us.''

'' Your duty towards the empire is remarkable. Please accept these gifts as part of my clan's and my appreciation towards your person, Asako-sama.'' Once again she offered to him

'' Even though he don't expect it, such a man is destined to great deeds in defense of the Empire and the Heavens.

''Please accept these, small, gifts Asako-sama. My clan's is in debt for your dutiful service.'' Nagiko bowed to him as she offered them a third time.

"How can I refuse so dutiful a request, you have my thanks, Nagiko-san, and your kin," he said in reply.

As Nagiko unwrapped the cloth, it revealed one bottle full of some sort of blackish powder, and a bolt of silk. She offered to the Asako.

'' The bottle contains the grounded fruit of a native plant my homeland. It is edible, a bit spicy to the nose and tongue, and i have heard that it can also be used in some medicinal concoctions'' She explained.

'' This other one, well, it is a bolt of silk created in my homeland.'' There was no much needed explanation of that one.
