"Ho...? Sounds dire", he commented, not sure what to make of it. The kid seemed too honest, but he might have simply misunderstood what was happening.

"And now your clan's gone back out there, must be rough."

"Yeah, I'm sorry I can't be more help to them right now," Baatar admitted. "But I guess some of us have to hold the fort back here in the east."

"But what about you?" he pressed. "You said you had fought before. What war were you in?"

"Well, during the war of Broken Fangs, the Scorpion stayed on the outside, our ranks were depleted pretty heavily from repeated conflict, but I got permission to take a short pilgrimage to Shinomen Mori for...uh...spiritual reasons, some naga happened to be there and this Lion general was giving orders, figured I could help if I didn't get in the way."

He puffed his pipe, chuckling a little. Then his expression darkened a bit.

"Though in the war of Crossed Pincers, and well...I don't like to talk about it all that much. Both sides did a lot no Ikoma will be signing about any time soon."

"Wow, it does sound like you've seen some things, then," the Unicorn admitted. "I bet we'll see some more here before long, too, eh? You saw the refugees arriving today? I think it means there'll be war."

"There will be a fight, that's for certain", he agreed. "Question is if we're seen as more a political threat than a military one."

"I suppose we'll see," Baatar said. "I imagine the answer will be decided by better courtiers than me."

Norikami grinned.

"I wouldn't worry, we just follow orders anyway. Good fortune to you, Moto-san. I'm sure we'll see each other again."

He waved as he turned to walk away, a bit less amused by the young Unicorn and more sympathetic toward him.
