I've seen a few things, he thinks, but knowing more helps. And knowing that the Moto is fond of travel stories might be good for business.

"I suppose the most well known at this point, would be the piranha." she suggested. "Vicious swarms of fish than could strip the flesh off a man with astonishing speed. There were giant bears, wolves and bees, as well. But, they were actually in Chikushudo."

"Piranha are REAL?" Baatar marveled. "I thought they were just a traveler's story, like orochi, or the earthquake fish. If piranha are so deadly, how did you keep from getting eaten by them? Is there a trick?"

"OROCHI ARE REAL??" The wide-eyed Unicorn pressed his hands against the top of his head to keep it from exploding.

"I mean... what are they like, Kasuga-san? Are they as big as the stories say?"

"It depends, my friend, on whose stories you hear--and which orochi. Just as people, they are not all the same--and some tellers will make their words bigger than the things that face them. You and I are none such, of course, but others might be."

Baatar tilted his head as he pondered Seitouna's careful words.

"You're saying you didn't see one yourself, then, aren't you?" he said accusingly. "How do you know if they're real, then?"

"Oh, okay then," Baatar said, nodding. "How big was the one you saw, then? Big as a horse?" He gestured to the horse munching hay in its stall. "Big as this castle? Bigger?"

"It was at some distance, my friend, and not with much to give comparison. But I would place it as bigger than the horse, though smaller than the castle--unless it was much further away than I or the skipper thought it was."

He shrugs.

"But it was much as seeing a whale away off the bow, or astern, and our task was otherwise than ichthyology."

"WHALES ARE REAL?!" Baatar gasped. The dog barked, caught up in the spirit of things.

"Umm, I mean, what were you doing instead, then?" the young Unicorn asked, after regaining his composure. "Some sort of merchant voyage?"

"That... that seems so crazy," Baatar said slowly, shaking his head in semi-disbelief as he absorbed this new information. "The ocean must be a terrifying place! How does anyone dare get on a boat when there's all these giant fish and giant snakes swimming around?"
