Panting from exertion as she reaches the finish line last, Iko is less exuberant than Somgai but her cheeks are flushed from the effort in the cold weather.

"Very....well...done…" she commends them both as she catches her breath. "I know that I at least found that very impressive."

As she turns to retrieve her gear, she notices Yukinaga and offers a shallow bow to the Scorpion who seemed busy puffing on his pipe before strapping on her daisho once again.

"Ha-ha!" Baatar said triumphantly. The younger samurai didn't even seem tired. "Now that we've defeated you, kenku, you shall have to teach us your secrets."

He didn't speak, but he did return a semblance of the bow that was offered. Then he folded his arms into his sleeves, his absolutely not Yukinaga sleeves, and watched a frozen pond for a bit.

"That was a good race! Anyone watching from the skies would be impressed!"

Somgai notices the Scorpion, but seeing his pose decides he must not be interested in speaking.

"I thank you both for the adventure we've already had today..." he looks up to the sky. "And the adventure yet to come!"

"I hope so, minna-san. I will endeavour to return here in the hours of the Early Evening each day. If your schedule permits, I will offer what further tips I can that may set you upon your path."

Iko looked at them both intently. "It is a long and difficult path, but rewarding if one proves worthy."

The young Unicorn began collecting his things from the garden bench.

"I might have to get a bigger sword," Somgai comments to himself as Baatar packs up.

Looking back to the Dragon, he says: "Thank you. It is not often that a heart's desire is answered so quickly as to have a kenku-trained samurai when one is looking for a kenku. If anyone needs to take heart in these times, look here! A light shone on this place."

Why do they keep mentioning kenku? What, that Dragon?

He tries to sort out if he'd ever heard of anyone learning a non-human style...well, at least that wasn't an obvious lie.

Nope, nothing came to mind.

He edged out his curiousity though for then, maybe he'd run into them at the local dojo sometime.

Leaning closer to the Phoenix, Baatar whispered, “I think she may actually be the kenku. Some magical creatures can take human form, you know!”

Somgai's mouth literally drops open. For a moment, he looks panicked. Then he recovers himself... mostly. He still seems a little nervous.

Oblivious to the conspiratorial whispers, and the eavesdropping Scorpion, Iko moved to a still visible garden section and practiced her iai draw.

'Well, you'll never know if they're real if you don't look for them," Baatar said philosophically. "What is it that you're looking for?" He gazed down at the pond himself.

"Found it, fresh faced samurai with all the years ahead ot him a lord could hope for."

He smirked and blew a cloud of smoke above them.

Somgai listened to the conversation some distance away, but his gaze was elsewhere, eyes focused on nothing.

"Two", he answered simply. He left out not being one to brag. He hadn't figured out how much teasing this one could take yet.

Somewhat mollified, Baatar related his story.

"It was a dark time for the Ki-Rin," the Unicorn began. "We were riding back to the east, as Shinjo commanded, when we came across a land of shadows where the very darkness could eat people's faces. Sometimes we could fight back against the hungry shadows, sometimes they slipped away, or were too powerful and we had to run past them."

"For years we fought our way across this terrible land, until the Dragon used some kind of magic to summon a beacon that led us here - back to Rokugan."
