Yogo Aya spared a side glance at the massive Crab.

"If Hida Goro says so, then so it must be." she offered dismissively.

"Are the kitchens this way?"

That was a question the Crab knew the answer to and it vastly improved his mood to answer it.

"Hai, Yogo-san - the kitchens are just beyond that courtyard there. If one is there at just the right time, it's possible to get selections of snacks before they are distributed throughout the castle." His eyes light up and he absentmindedly pats his stomach, "Hida Goro knows this well."

Yogo Aya nods.

"Wise to get your snacks while you can Hida Goro. I rather doubt the Lion were planning on hosting a huge wave of refugees in the midst of winter. It may be down to barley by the time the roads clear enough for supplies to get here, assuming there's not an an enemy host to get through as well." she advises "And the best snacks will go to the important guests first anyways."

The Crab shrugs, though seems a little saddened as the reality sets in, "Hida Goro is... used to times being tight on the Wall. Though Hida Goro will be sad to no longer be able to get the choicest selection of onigiri..."

He straightens up, "But Hida Goro will do his duty as all Crab do."

Yogo Aya nodded.

"I expected nothing less from Hida Goro....hmmm, what about sake?" she asks moving on to another luxury item.

"Sake?" the Crab asks. "What about sake?"

It seems to take some time for the connection to be made in his head. Truly he wasn't the sharpest katana in the armory - perhaps more akin to a tetsubo being compared to a katana.

Slowly, his eyes widen as the realization dawns on him. "Yogo-san... you do not think... the sake..."

Yogo Aya shrugged.

"I'm no Akodo logistics master, Hida Goro. It just seems to me that there are more people here than expected, and that many would be likely to drink to mourn the passing of an Emperor. I didn't see a brewery on the way here....not that a brewery could make more sake quickly, but it's presence would suggest a larger than average stockpile...."

She paused a moment to let Hida Goro to take that information in.

"All I'm saying is that if I wanted to challenge Hida Goro to a drinking contest, it might be prudent to hold that sooner, rather than later. Where's the glory in challenging a Crab to a water drinking contest after all?"

The Crab seems to blanch at the thought of a siege without sake. His fists clench tighter, "Yo-yogo-san is right that there is little honor in such a challenge. We could, however, hope it doesn't come to that. While Hida Goro cannot speak for the governor here, Hida Goro knows it would be prudent to prepare for whatever might come."

Again he seems to regain a little composure, though slightly more shaken then before, "If sacrifices must be made for the protection of the Empire, Hida Goro will make them!"

Yogo Aya tilted Yogo Aya's head at that.

"You know, that's the second time Hida Goro has felt the need to tell me that Hida Goro only speaks for Hida Goro. Is that because Hida Goro expects that people will think Hida Goro is the most important man because Hida Goro is the largest man around, or is it because Hida Goro does not think people would possibly be interested in Hida Goro's personal opinion?" she asked.

He waves his hand dismissively, "Hida Goro is but a lowly bushi from the Wall. His opinion is of little matter - except when it comes to matters of battle. And, as Hida Goro is sure Yogo-san knows, many choose to be overly cautious when it comes to such things."

Aya shrugged at that.

"As I understand it, tales of great caution are really only popular in Crab lands. Not that I blame the Crab for that. The price of recklessness in their lands is about as damn steep as it gets." she admits.

She smiles a bit.

"But one should try to adapt to their surroundings a bit, Hida Goro. Matsu charges into impossible odds made possible by Akodo tactics, to be spoken of at great length by Ikoma bards is what's popular around these parts. You should take the opportunity to be a bit more bold."
