A New Day (day 13 early morning, street)

That morning, Moto Baatar was seen sauntering along Friendship Street, cheerfully singing some godawful Unicorn song as he swung his arms animatedly with every exaggerated stride. It was too early for serious drinking, but if he weren't drunk, what could be the reason for this peculiar behavior?

Eika followed along behind, a smirk across her face. "Time for your first hunt with the pride?"

The two war cats rubbed against her and Baatar, stretching their limbs out from time to time.

She made a mental note to do some shopping later. Eika wanted to get her lover something special.

Baatar's face lit up upon seeing Eika, and he was inspired to serenade her with nonsense verses:

"Let's do it!" Baatar enthused. "Today we could do anything!" He patpatted one of the lions on the head, then patted the other one too, to make sure they wouldn't get jealous.

The warcats chirped and rumbled with satisfactio. Both rubbed their cheeks on Baatar, sharing their scents with him, making him one of the pride. Their Mistress's scent still on him, encouraging this behavior.

"Together, we can do anything!" She seemed equally excited by his cheerful attitude and began adding to the nonsense song.

"The wolves are gone,
Mangy dogs,
You're strong like a lion,
With the kick of a stallion,
Nothing going to stop us now!

Made up our minds,
To be wild and free!
Nothing going to stop us now!"

As they left earshot of the guards her singing got far more lewd as she sang a song she'd heard from her drunken kitsu charge sing to a Doji when she was in crane lands:

"Yeah, tell me what you like, can I scratch and bite?
We can scratch that fight, make it last all night
Slidin' on your side and curves, satisfy the primal urge
Ridin' on you back and forth, that's how you make my lion roar..."

Hearing the singing, Hachi walked out the door of the Phoenix Embassy, and looked around, curious who else was out and about at this time.

Baatar laughed at Eika's lewd song and joined in by singing another song:

The young Moto gave Isawa Hachi a jaunty wave as they saw him appear at the door of the Phoenix Embassy.

"Good morning!" Baatar goodmorninged brightly as they drew near.

"Have you taken your rice, Phoenix-san?" Eika sounded nearly giddy this morning. Her war lions wound their way in a figure eight around both samurai, starting to view Baatar as Eika's mate and part of the pride.

"I was just about to head out and get some. Have you had the Fortune's blessing this day?"

"We, err, I haven't had the chance as we are about to hunt the warcats. Their stomachs come first. No one wants to tell a hungry lion no, after all." She glanced at Baatar as she spoke that last sentence.

"You shouldn't ever try to either!" Eika held a small wrapped item u der her arm as if trying to obscure it from view a bit. Kaori, the lioness, rumbled in agreement, she demanded hunting time! Already her mistress dragged her through the market near the food stalls.

Hachi had heard of the Beastmasters. He had never met one before. He had also never met any lions. The closest he had ever gotten was hearing a roar from a male, while traveling.

"Is... is it safe to approach?"

"Yes, you've more risk from Baatar-san here." She winked at Baatar knowing he would protect her, if ever any harm befell her. "These two are well trained, and have plenty of experience on and off the battlefield."

The package in her arm shifted, clearly wrapped carefully as though it were a gift.

She gave the signal and Kaori, the lioness, went to greet the Isawa with a friendly hand sniff.

Hachi is careful, and holds out his left hand to be sniffed. At least that way, if the lion is hungry, he will still be able to write.

The hand smells of ink and paper, and an odd underlying smell of water.

A rough tongue shoots out of the lionesses' mouth, to lap at the odd watery smell. It isn't wet, which results in ears turned back to Eika and a cocked head at the Phoenix.

Eika hands Baatar the cloth wrapped thing, and in a purring whisper, "you need this to hunt with us. Now you'll be one of my pride!"

Baatar unwrapped the package and held the mempo up proudly. "Ahh, great!" he said. "That looks like it should fit just right." Fumbling with the straps, he fastened it around his lower face. It looked a bit incongruous with his rumpled Unicorn-colored clothing.

"Umm... I bet it will work better with armor," he said through the mouth piece of the mask.

Eika nodded in agreement at his assessment of the mempo. "You look a bit more like a Lion already." My Lion, she thought to herself. "If you don't think it is time yet you don't need to wear it. I just figured you might like to be one of the pride for the hunt." My pride. I am so happy to have found you. Eika blushed and looked flustered, hoping Baatar might pick up on the romantic double nature of her gift, despite being in front of an onlooker.

"I shall wear it with pride," Baatar assured her, adjusting the mask to fit snugly around his lower face.

Kaori gave the Isawa's hand a friendly headbutt, demanding his attention. Eika nodded in agreement with Baatar.

Hachi carefully starts to scratch at the Lion. Behind the ears? Under the chin? Just on the top, between the ears? Where the lion wants the hand, that is where Hachi nervously pats, rubs or scratches.
