Clean-Up Duty [D12, Early Evening]

Kodama had come out, hoping he might persuade those left behind of the error of their ways.

He quickly blanched as he was forced into a situation of killing instead of saving. Any hope he had of persuading others to do it with compassion for their enemy went sailing out the window as a head sailed by.

He closed his eyes a moment. Tried to realize whether or not this was Toshigoku itself.

Then yelled, "PLEASE! STOP UNICORN-SAMAS!" He waved his one hand, running after the horsemen.

Seeing the princess he nodded to Baatar and said, “Carry on without me, sidi Baatar!”

He urged Bashiru forward in gallop and raced around her giving her a wide berth before slowing to a gentle trot and approached looking down at her with a smirk. He withdrew some cloth and started cleaning his ancestral weapon and said, “Sayyeda, I did not expect to see you taking to the field for such gruesome work, and you bloodied your sword, what lesson did they teach you this day?”

Eika made a series of clicks with tongue. "Oy, oy! Seiji, Kaori. Back, back!" The two war cats came sulking back, displeased to be called off the game. They did as told, at least.

Horonigai looks up to the beast circling around her, and gently pulls the knot holding one side of the mempo. It falls, still attached at the other side, to show her face filled with white makeup, and reddened eyes to contrast with the green.

Moving in a circle as the rider goes around, she replies, "They taught me that Compassion in battle is a gift one needs to deliver without waiting for refusals."

“Compassion,” he said aloud as if tasting the word taking its measure.

“Sayyeda delivers her mercy with precision and skill, impressive,” he said before noticing an ashigaru roll over. A flick of the blade and more compassion was delivered. He got back to cleaning the blade and said, “I do not know why, but I sense that I have offended you, sayyeda. That is regrettable for I have nothing but respect for a fellow warrior, especially one who is willing to stand for what she believes in.”

“Says much that you have the conviction, and not just words.”

She nods to his words, and shows no reaction as he puts down another soul.

When he looks back at her, Horonigai simply says, "Do not regret. If you have offended wrongly... apologize."

The Seppun crosses her arms, defiantly.

"Eh?! What?!" the wild-eyed Moto said, surprised to find a monk chasing after him. The Unicorn reined his horse in, lowering his gore-spattered sword.

"Kodama, isn't it?" Baatar asked, remembering meeting the monk in court earlier on. "What's wrong?"

He bows quickly, but straightens almost as fast. He is breathing hard. "Please do not send these souls to the next realm shamed in such a way. Though they were our enemy, we do them and ourselves kharmic harm to revel in their deaths."

Chihaya saw them called off their game, and then saw who was responsible.

Kodama and Horonigai.

She paused, torn, as to which situation she ought to aid with and for her distraction earned a ringing blow to the side of the head.

Staggering, she turned and saw a rather angry and desperate looking man, yari in hand. He had slapped her with it. The incompetence!

Off balance, she slipped on the bloody mud, falling across a dead body and rolling.

The man gave chase, stabbing at her, yelling incoherently, swinging his spear like a cudgel and striking at her, again, and again.

Blocking the attacks with one arm, she rose to her knees, and then stood with one foot, the other drawing her wakizashi. Catching the spear, she pulled, dragging the man off balance and forward onto her blade.

Wiping her wakizashi clean, she sheathed it, and then went to pick up her Katana.

Hell of a place to be getting distracted with politics, wasn't it? Looking up, she saw... something... happening.

Jigoku's fire, she needed to intervene.

Sheathing her blade, ignoring the blood and mud, she broke into a run, attempting to reach them in time.

"These men came to kill all of us, including you and me," Baatar replied. "Why should we not rejoice that we live and they die? They did not spare the bodies of our fallen when they had the upper hand. Not even the lady monk." He tilted his head in the direction of where Seppun Horonigai had been taking down the staked heads of the fallen heroes.

Akemi had only been there to ensure none needed protection. She would not get involved in any of the beheading, being very against it. Even if these people had served the other side, they deserved compassion still, right?

She managed to keep her calm when her kin were incredibly disrespectful, although she had started moving in that direction before a monk had stopped Baatar and Batzurig had moved towards...the Imperial princess....

Oh no...

She watched, wide-eyed, as something happened. Then the Imperial charged?

No no no no no.

She moved quickly in that direction, but was far too far away to do anything for now.

He frowns, shaking his head, "We rejoice in being alive, hai. But mimicking them is to mimic those who've been claimed by Toshigoku, Moto-sama. There is glory in defeating an enemy, but this wasn't victory. This was the enemy deciding to move on towards easier prey."

He runs a hand through his hair, watching for others that might attack them while they talked. How can he phrase it.

"It is through our deeds that we show others how sincere we are when we speak. Why would those who might seek a different path ever speak with us, if they see that this is how we treat those who are at their weakest, simply because we were opposed to each other?"

Eika looked dismayed. She was an honorable Lion, or was supposed to be but something inside drew her to want to defend Baatar. She judged the distance, and knew how fast she and her cats could move if things got ugly. For now, she waited...
