[Day Eleven - Early Afternoon] Imperial Matcha

Wasako nodded as she picked up her teacup once more to take another sip of matcha. "Hai, it's not exactly a glorious life and we do not wish for recognition. Admittedly, I'm not directly seeking Enlightenment at the moment as I have the duty to be my sensei's aide. However, he did ask me to come here to broaden my horizons and I hope to do just that. If I am hopeful, perhaps it is the first step to a much greater journey."

"And by broaden your horizons, does your sensei wish for you to seek other duties? Like being a magistrate, a sensei?... Perhaps marriage?"

Ryuji took an almond cookie and took a small bite.

"I wouldn't say that I'm ready to be a sensei just yet, especially when I have yet to learn everything from my own sensei. There are so few of us that I don't know if there will be much good to have another sensei, however it does make it especially important to continue the path and that may be my eventual future."

She narrowed her eyes in thought. "However, our path isn't so conventional that they fit into normal duties. We find ourselves at odds when it comes to military structures and the courts. I'm sure like the Togashi monks, though they are full of surprises and find themselves fitting in more than some people may think, if you've met some of the Togashi here."

"I have not met any Togashi here. Why do you feel at odds about matters of military and state?"

"If Otomo-sama get the chance, he might consider a social exchange worthwhile. Togashi Mai-san is an artist herself and has been offering her services to those here who are interested in having a tattoo or two done. I don't know how the Imperials feel about such things, as I found that Clans outside of the Dragon have different opinions about tattoos."

"As to why we are at odd," she said before taking a sip. "Our path is less conventional compared to our other cousins in the Mirumoto. Niten is an art and spiritual form in itself but it does lend itself more to military and courtly application. Their art is far more defensive in application and fearsome with its use of two swords, I admit. They also use armour too, while we only rely on our skills of the sword and fist. Our path isn't so suited to the defense of the mountains and in military campaigns."

She looked off in thought, "I suppose we could consider duelling and passive participation in the courts.Personally, I wouldn't think of myself a duellist first and foremost. I also doubt the courts and state are too interests in the pursuit of Enlightenment nor martial spirituality. Niten is rival to the Kakita form for a good reason."

"Yes, yes. Quite interesting." he replied and took a sip of matcha.

"I do keep a very tight schedule so I doubt I will meet one of your Togashi unless there is an appointment. Tattoos are not...well, they are fascinating art upon the body, just not mines. I am sure this Togashi Mai-san is a formidable artist. Again, if an appointment opens, I may look into that.... Can I get you anything else, another cookie or some fruit?"

"Oh, of course," she nodded soundly. "You probably have your hands full at the moment, especially with the Empire's future at stake. And tattoos aren't for everyone but perhaps you will cross paths with her."

She looked down at the offering and shook her head, dipping her head in gratitude. "No, I think I'm fine, thank you. Actually, this has been a very generous offering, Otomo-sama. More so than I'm used to. Never had cookies like these and the matcha have been a real treat."

"If I am here to learn, the least I can do is also enjoy my time, ne?" she nodded with a smile. "However, so long as I learn, of course."

"I might have taken enough of your time, Otomo-sama, thank you for the invitation for tea and treats," she rose from her seat to bow deeply to the Imperial.

Ryuji stood and bowed in kind.

"Thank you for your time. Perhaps we will see one another again here. Do be well."

"Oh, I'm sure, Otomo-sama. Carry the Fortunes," she nodded with a small smile and then made her leave from the castle.
