Horonigai gets the tea and sips on it, so they may feel unimpeded to partake. "Ne. I would have hoped for the Imperial Legions will march this way. But, that's not a sound strategy. The best one is to hold some defenses down at the Emerald Champions Castle, and the main bulk of the force at Otosan Uchi."

The Seppun looks at her tea. "Conquering this city gives them a supply line to take down the road south. If they don't manage to take it soon, I believe they'll simple leave south not to loose momentum. Legions stationed at Scorpion, Crane and Crab provinces are definitely on the move to the Imperial Capital. Too long and the Steel Chrysanthemum will lose the advantage."

Mei was just abot to take a sip of tea, but at hearing that she sets the cup back down and takes a breath.

"I see. Well then."

Ryuji remained quiet and maintained his On. He held his cup of tea, not making eye contact with either of the Imperial women.

"During the court today, I heard people trying to uplift Seppun Kato, what is that all about? It seems strange anyone would try to push him for the throne when he already underwent the ritual of abdication. I can see the thought process behind those that support the Steel Chrysanthemum, though I don't agree, but Kato seems...very out of place."

Horonigai reminds herself that Mei was traveling, thus wasn't able to catch the news from her on Family regarding the Imperial announcement. She takes a sip, and explains, "It has happened before... When there's not a legitimate heir in line for the Throne with the Hantei name. The precedent says the Imperial Families search within their numbers the one with the closes connection, and with the blessings of Tengoku, revoke the abdication."

Mei raises an eyebrow.

"Not a legitimate heir? The Crown Prince is not the son if the late Emperor?"

She takes a sip of her tea silently, pondering on that.

The Miharu puts the cup at her lap and shakes her head negatively. "Unfortunate for all of the Empire. The Miya Shisha proclaimed an announcement a couple of days ago, revealing the information publicly."

"The Imperial Shisha did not say where. I believe from Toshi Ranbo, since he mentioned that it was a truth that Seppun Kato-dono was pained to share. Something that was kept hidden from the Empress to protect her honor." Horonigai nods.

Horonigai presses her lips and finishes her tea. "Eto. It is unfortunate indeed. I trust our superiors had good reasoning to keep it to themselves until now. It gives yet another wind for the Imperial Families to carry on. It is our duty to see that a true Hantei, blessed by Tengoku, sits on the Emerald Throne."

Maybe then, my mission will be completed, Horonigai smiles to herself shyly when thinking.

Mei counters, her voice calm.

"I would not be so certain in the truth in that proclamation. Though, you are free to do as you see fit, -sama. Your conscious will guide you. "

"Un! I understand the feeling Miya-san. Believe me, I wish I have not heard the proclamation myself."

She lowers her eyes at first, and finds energy to explain, soaking the offense Mei offered to explain, "While one may express thoughts, often when requested by one's superiors, one may not counter the proclamation of the Miya Shisha, that carries the very will of the Emperor, without risking to face grave offense. Additionally, honor demands that we, as samurai of the Imperial Families, honor the protocol given by a superior ranking officer, no matter if it is bitter to our own tastes."

The Seppun closes her eyes, and concludes, "It is not consciousness, ne, Miya-san. It is Duty."

She looks thoughtfully, seeing if Ryuji has any input on the matter
