He shrugged at her discomfort, "To each their own, as I said I don't see the issue."

"Dead things are impure."

She sighed.

"I suppose maybe you could get a priest to purify them, but... it would be like touching a dog, but it is dead... cold, when it should be warm, with a pumping heart..."

Shaking her head. "I think it would take me a while to get used to such a thing."

A pause. "Also it looks itchy."

"Are you calling me impure," he said with a dry laugh. "It's fur and cloth and leather, we clean it plenty before we wear it. We don't just slaughter dogs and then wear them."

Chihaya sighed. "Hai, but there is still a... process."

With a faint shrug, she added, "I wouldn't call you impure, I have no idea if you've allowed the priests to purify your furs before they are sewn... I just say why we might be less interested..."

Finishing another kata, she sheathed her blade again.

"And, truly, it looks like it would get very warm and itchy. Though some might prefer that - especially if they haven't grown up in Suzume winters."

"Your process," he said dryly.

"My ways do not require you to live them, but your ways seem to imply that we live them." Batzorig shrugged and said, "As I said, to each their own."

Chihaya shrugged.

"You've moved into the neighborhood."

A soft laugh. "Some are more concerned with matters of propriety or tradition - and they sometimes can do much more harm than a simple soldier such as I."

Walking to the racks, she began testing various bokken, looking for one with a weight she liked.

"I've a more... flexible view. I've seen a broader swath of the empire than most. So I know our ways are not even consistent, from one end of the empire to the other."

"They were our lands by right, last I checked, but point taken, sayyeda," he responded.

"We will adapt, we always do."

"I am certain."

She nodded. "Have you tried our attire? It may surprise you - it's a nice option for when the weather warms up. Perhaps we will both find something to gain from one another."

Finding one she liked, she wandered back onto the floor, giving the bokken some twirls, before squaring up with a series of dummies.

Letting a silence fall, she began an aggressive practice, hitting the dummy in a number of places armor usually was weakest, alternating dummies and target points with each strike.

"No, I have not," was his reply.

Crossing her arms, she looked thoughtful.

"Well, would you like to?"

Raising a hand before he replied, she added, "In exchange, I am willing to try this... yoguruto, or some of these furs, or some other exotic thing which may become part of our new normal. Fair is fair."

"Right now?" He asked with mild confusion.

She waved a hand. "No, of course not. You would look a comedy, trying to fit into my clothes, and I, buried by yours."

She sighed. "But perhaps we could meet at another time, and procure some which fit you, in order to see if they suit your taste as an alternative option."

Frowning, she added, "Furs might be a tad more difficult. I am not certain if such a thing would be available, unless perhaps... the Yasuki was once Iuchi, so she was a unicorn... Perhaps she might know a way."

"Yes," he agreed after a long moment of consideration.

A nod.

She bowed, and then paused, before extending her hand.

"A deal then. I will find a tailor for you, and you will find something you wish me to try."

“Not hard to find such things,” he said taking her hand once more firmly.

“We get you good hat and sturdy boots,” he said appreciatively.

Hrm.

She just nodded.

"I look forward to it. Until then, I should keep in practice, in case our guests outside the walls decide to pay an unwelcome visit."

Turning back to the dummy, she resumed her kata.

"I look forward to killing the bastards," he said with nod and got back to practicing with his weapon.

Chihaya gave a small grunt of agreement, but otherwise did not pause her assault upon the training dummy.

In some sense, it was relaxing, beating up an inanimate object so thoroughly.
