She had never had to carry someone through a throng of bloodthirsty spirits before.

"Someone, please save Tani-sama," she managed to stutter out to her companions as she tried to hold off the crazed warriors that stymied her progress.

If the Tani, and Izumi, could make it out safely, then it would be worth it. She had done a good action.

"Ah, time to go," Setsuna murmured. They grabbed onto Izumi with more grace than before and carried her through the storm. "Where is everyone else? Gah... Wish we could just go back the way we came."

Tsukimi tried to brute force her way forward, only to be repaid with more pain.

It burdened her heart heavily that she had failed to save this woman. They had cautioned eachother to not throw themselves needlessly into danger. Yet, here they both were...

"Guess I couldn't keep that promise, Tani-sama..."

Tameaki tries to marshal what's left of his strength and push onward, but manages to get absolutely nowhere. One of the spirits kicks the hand supporting his weight out from under him and he hits the ground hard. (Defense 13 - not even close. Damage 3 - not much, but 2/6 Hurt. +10 TN means I'd have to roll max on further Defense rolls)

Maybe I'll just...stay here for a bit...

The others were too far ahead, and she couldn't reach him.

"I'm sorry, Tani-sama..." she grunted out through the pain to her passenger.

Another stab. Another cut. Tsukimi blinked as the pain became overbearing. Even if she had called upon the power that Akemi had given her, it wouldn't have mattered, she realised.

A pity. She would've liked to have seen that magic in action. "For..." she tried to say the words, but it was now too much for the Dragon, and she fell. Still carrying Matsu Tani.

Setsuna felt pretty confident. They had done so well! And then... of course, Setsuna got a little too anxious about touching such a creepy and sexy Kitsu.

But, at the very least, they were able to push onward. They were so, so close to being the hero of their own dreams. "Just a bit further..."

Wasako panicked at first when she didn't see her companions. Had she gone too far or had she went off in the wrong direction? It probably wasn't until she saw Setsuna in the distance dragging the Kitsu. She was relieved at first but suddenly horror dawned on her. Tsukimi...the Matsu... They must have been left behind!

She gritted her teeth together. Did she think herself wise for going ahead? It was an impetuous decision and a foolish one. She hammered herself remembering that she was not a sensei and still ever the young student.

This time, she remained behind to ensure Setsuna went on ahead and this time caught an arrow to her arm. She cried out at first but quickly bit her lower lip. It wasn't her right to complain and she marched on.

Day 11, Late Afternoon: Defense/Reflexes #2 vs TN20, void used: 5d10o10k4 46
Day 11, Late Afternoon: Damage roll #2: 3d10o10k1 19

Current damage is 16/+3TN

"Ancestors of Touki, leave this place!" Unfortunately, they did not leave this place. They continued just stabbing them and stabbing them. At least Izumi wasn't getting stabbed?

Upon seeing Setsuna move on ahead, she moved forward to follow after. It was perhaps some distance later that she saw that Setsuna could only get so far before being overwhelmed by the enemy forces hounding them down. It wasn't just Setsuna but it seemed Tameki only made it this far before having fallen. She grimaced at the situation and quickly made a decision to pick up Izumi, then carried her the rest of the way toward the castle.

Day 11, Late Afternoon: Defense/Reflexes #3 vs TN20, void used, 2 raises called (TN33 with wounds): 5d10o10k4 39

"Thank you, Mirumoto-sama," Setsuna murmured. They got to their feet and watched the Dragon make it out with Izumi. A disaster, sure, but at least Izumi got out. Now it was Setsuna's turn.

"I'm not dying here!"

The Bayushi got to their feet, stumbling towards the gates. More of the ghosts of the Akodo sliced through their guard. There was no evading them, not with so many around them. Their so-called legendary technique wasn't enough.

Unless...

There. The opening was there. Setsuna gathered their strength and burst out of the horde of ghosts. It was so miraculous that somehow they kept on running to meet up with Izumi.

"Let's see Touki get out of that," they announced, "Let's not do this again, Izu-" A burst of vomit came out of their mouth, right into the mask. But it wasn't vomit, no, it was blood.

Setsuna took off their mask to not drown in her own blood. Needed to survive more than anything. "Hey," she said, "Mystery revealed." The blood kept seeping out of her mouth as she tried to take her next step inside. But her knees gave out. Why were they giving out now?

"Poem... Not done."

She collapsed, coughing just a bit more out. Then all she could do was close her eyes and hope to meet Izumi and Touki later.

Not Setsuna, Izumi! Reduce to 5, now at 45. So close to down.

Welp. Reduce to 15, makes it 60, that's a dead Setsuna.

As Wasako returns to the castle with Kitsu Izumi, Togashi Tsukimi and Soshi Tameaki are swept up by the enemy forces...

Traditionalist Victory: If the rescue attempt fails, Matsu Tani remains a prisoner of Matsu Kassenko. Kitsu Izumi does not fall into the Steel Chrysanthemum's clutches, but the blow to morale is significant. The Empire gains +15 Traditionalist Points (i.e., splitting the difference).
