In Your Base, Stealin' Your Tea [D11, Late Evening]

Horonigai somehow manages to get a room within the Crane embassy to accommodate the Imperials she invited over. Of course, she makes sure that the Crane in charge has been properly... yelled at with insults to get the room ready.

She waits there as if nothing happened. The Imperial would arrive soon, as would probably someone from the Crane delegation, being alerted that a guest has taken dominance of one of their rooms.

Mei walks through the Embassy and spots the room Horonigai had mentioned. She watches as the woman yells at the servant and then says in a cool voice.

"Is the evening treating you poorly, Seppun-sama?"

She rolls her eyes up as the servant leaves and shakes her head. Horonigai notices Mei and gives her a bowed greeting, "Konbanwa, Miya-san, Seppun Horonigai-desu, Miharu from the House of the Abdicators. Hajimemashite. Yoroshiku onegaishimaasu."

Allowwing time to breath, the Seppun replies. "Yesterday was worse, ne. Don't worry. People don't seem to get my Otosan Uchi accent around here."

She laughs a bit, then asks. "Has Inari-no-kami blessed Miya-san today?"

Mei raises her eyebrow a little at the woman but then bows swiftly in return.

"Miya Mei. I only arrived this morning after a hard ride from the Capitol. I did eat after checking in here at the embassy, thank you. And yourself?"

"I've had the honor of sharing a Inari-kami's blessings with good Isawa friend this morning at the Phoenix Embassy, neh!" She nods, and takes a place to sit, indicating for Mei to do the same.

"Eto. I have to confess," She adds up, "this morning I saw a nafuda with Miya-san's name written on it here at the entrance hall and wondered why a Miya would be staying here and not at the Castle, neh!"

Horonigai shrugs. "Now that I know you are coming from Otosan Uchi, it makes me even more curious."

Mei sits down and relaxes a bit, enjoying being off her feet.

"Ah, well, Doji-dono has taken me on as a household retainer. When I heard the news from Morikage Toshi, I was overcome with worry for her and rushed to come aid her."

"And what of yourself? What is a loyal guard of the Emperor doing in Nikesake?"

"I've followed the refugees from Winter Court to Toshi no Omodoiso, and now here." She says, not giving much wait to it, and searching for a tea kettle.

"Now I am serving in the best of my capacity to defend the Empire from the hordes of the many bloodthirsty Lion and the Steel Chrysanthemum."

Ryuji scratched at the door. His On was perfect knowing that he would see Horonigai.

"I have heard little of what occurred at the Court. Though I admit I am impressed that you were able to be here, when others had not."

Mei begins to brush out her hair with her fingers as she talks.

"I am as impressed. I trust I have good friends around that have been too selfless. I admit I feel unworthy to be talking still. But, duty commands me to keep on." She smiles, and finds the kettle.

Noticing someone at the door, she moves, and slides it open. "Douzo, enter, Otomo-san. Good evening. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. I hope Inari-no-kami has given her blessings."

Horonigai mentions to the other lady in the room, hiding the kettle at her back. "This is Miya Mei-san, just arrived this morning from Otosan Uchi at the request of the Imperial Advisor."

Mei gives a seated bow to the Otomo.

"She did not request me, but once I heard the news I knew that it was my duty to ensure she was safe."

"Konbanwa." Ryuji replied as he bowed deeply to them both.

"Inari no kami has indeed blessed me this day." he turned to Mei.

"An honor Miya-san. I am Otomo Ryuji." he gave another bow then awaited to directed to sit.

"Sodesuka." She looks at the Miya with a short bow. "I was rude. I understood differently. I hope it is not an issue."

Then, the Miharu heats the water and looks at the tea selection not really knowing what to do with so many choices.

"Perhaps something earthy and hinted with spice. It is cold still, and that would be delicious."

Mei says to Horonigai as she looks over the tea selections. She doesn't acknowledge the apology, but nothing about her demeanor gives off any hint that she was even expecting one.

"And what of you, Otomo-sama? How did you wind up in Nikesake?"

"I was on my way to the Imperial Court and ended up here. I am glad that my trip was delayed."

It wasn't a question. It didn't need a reply, in any case. Mei's selection tip didn't wasn't effective, as Horonigai doesn't really spent much time with the Otomo selecting tea.

She picks... whatever looked fancy, and then sets it aside, waiting for the water to boil, looking pretty as they talk.

Mei shifts a little on her cushion and behind to finger comb the other side of her hair.

"Specially awful." Horonigai adds, sincerely, and gets the tea served for them. "Douzo, enjoy, onegaishimaaasu~"

Mei wraps her hands around the cup, enjoying its warmth and aroma, but does not go to drink it yet.

"Oh? Things can't be so terrible, no? I half expected to find the city burned to the ground like last time the Steel Chrysanthemum turned his ire against it."

"Lets not get too far ahead. Besides, he put the heads of heroes on a spike. There is no telling to what levels his armies will stoop. We simply need to be prepared and be prepared with a counteroffensive of some kind."
