[Day 11, Early Morning] In The Nick Of Time

The hard stone roads of Nikesake echoed with the commotion of a city in panic. Through the din of it all, a steady, rhythmic Clip-clop Clip-clop of a galloping horse pulses. The horse was no Unicorn steed, but it was still swift, and the rider maneuvered her through the crowds expertly, with an occasional shout of frustration.

"Make way! Move! Clear the center!"

The hoofbeats slowed and before the horse could finish stopping, Mei jumped from its back, handing the reins to a surprised looking guard.

She marches into the Crane Embassy in a huff and says to the first person she sees

"Is Doji Suiminko here? I must see her at once!"

The servant directs Mei into a nearby room, where Doji Suiminko awaits. The Advisor suppresses a sigh as she thinks back to her days at the capital. She missed her quiet breakfasts.

"Miya Mei, what a surprise," she says, climbing to her feet. "I had not thought you in the city."

Mei follows the servants and bows upon being addressed.

"Doji-dono. I rode hard to get here, hearing of what happened at Morikage Toshi. I am relieved you are well. "

She straightens from her bow and takes a step into the room.

"The situation here does not ease my concern however. If we are quick, we can yet escape. Ti-Lu can bear two without much effect on her speed, should you wish to return to the Imperial City"

"I have no intentions of riding through an enemy army," she says, returning to her seat. "Even if it were safe, there are appearances to maintain. I doubt that the Crane would be well served by my sudden disappearance from the city."

Mei bows again.

"Your protection was my concern, but I see it was misplaced. My humblest apologies."

"Since we will not be departing then, are there any specific actions you would require of me, or should I make myself useful to others who may be in need?"

Suiminko raises an eyebrow. "Did you complete my previous request?"

"All matters in your household at the Imperial City were attended to before I came to find you, Doji-dono."

She nods in approval. "I shall call on you when I have further need of your talents. Until then, you are dismissed."

Mei bows and leaves the woman to enjoy the rest of her breakfast.

She leaves the Embassy and gives a nod of thanks to the guard still holding her horse, and then mounts it and slowly rides down the street.
