Ryuji nodded, not so much to agree but to merely move the conversation along. He tuned out much of the ronin's spiritual talk. He glanced over to Sukima then back to Mari.

"Fundamentally... as in from its base foundation?" She asked. "That's quite the claim, Mari-san. What makes you say so?"

Things... such as what I have seen described and fought in the city streets, and the fundamental problems of the last few years in communing with the kami. Something is wrong with the very fabric of what we see." A shrug. "I am not sure 'what' that is, only that it is. I could not even tell you the solution. It is for greater souls than I. I simply know something is not right, and it will have to be righted one way or another."

She gestured towards the roof. "The unseasonable rain is as much a sign as any. The water kami have answered my call properly for the last several days, where I could tell you that there was not but imbalance in the year prior."

"The first step is the sealing of any portal into another spiritual realm. I might have heard something to the effect of it being done already, though I confess with all this fighting, I have had little time to confirm rumor. The portals must be sealed and none opened again. So long as that is done, eventually, balance will be achieved one way or another... though sending as many of the fallen spirits to their rightful place would probably assist hastening that balance." In reality? She didn't think that had anything to do with the elemental imbalance, but first thing was first.

She mused, tapping her lips gently with one finger. "So I'm not totally unfamiliar with the issues outside of the immediate threat of the slaughter spirits. A symptom of the true issue, I wonder?"

"Probaby, Yogo-sama... and I am an honest enough woman to admit it may be well beyond my meager abilities to change or understand. But you may be right." And it disturbed her somewhat to think that she was. "But we do what we can, I suppose, yes?"

Ryuji was clearly oblivious to what they were talking about. It was more willful than sheer utter ignorance. He ultimately did not care but kept his On as if he was interested in their discussion of spiritual matters.

"Healing the injured with the aid of the kami and tending to the needs of those present defending the city. It is the most appropriate use of my talents for the moment." There wasn't a lot beyond that which she felt especially competent towards, so it was a good place to be in her estimation.

If she had a clue about the other Otomo's misgivings, which she didn't, she probably would have been sympathetic. She wasn't the most deeply religious despite appearances. It was pragmatic for her. Pissing off fortunes got you cursed, and kami did things for her, so finding imbalances and righting them made that work easier. Anything behind that was ... a bit above her paygrade, but the imbalances right now were hard to ignore.

After all, only certain kinds of magic worked properly right now.
