She shakes her head again, holding the chopsticks down. "I would not bring Otomo-san in such a complicated, and... dangerous situation. You're too kind to me."

She gives a seated bow, refusing the offer. "Arigatou gozaimashita."

"Un," She nods, "I am enjoying. Although I confess my appetite hasn't been the same, lately. Thank you." She takes the bite she was supposed to before, and makes sure to eat something extra. The tea was indication enough.

"That is most unfortunate to hear. I hope this isn't due to with the war..."

"It is related, hai." Horonigai takes a sip. "Ne. What about Otomo-san. Married, I presume. Any children?"

"I am without a bride. No betrothal. My mother, likes to remind me that her days are not getting any longer." Ryuji replied pouring himself some tea.

"Sodesuka!" Horonigai laughs with her eyes. "I take your mother is Otomo trained."

Bayushi Sasuke, the Miharu reads the name of the author written on the book while listening to his reply. "Ne, Otomo-san, what is that book about?"

Is there something odd here? She pays attention to him, trying to catch potential inconsistencies.

A small chuckle.

"My mother was Matsu, Ikoma trained and learned Otomo. I tried to avoid the whole married thing cause I wanted to be better at my duties. Not good to put off one duty for another eh?"

Ryuji sipped his tea.

"This book was recommended to me by a Scorpion Courtier I befriended sometime ago. It is about the adventures of Bayushi Sasuke, the Most Interesting Man in Rokugan. I find it far more enjoyable than I thought.

"Well..."Ryuji began as he sat down his chopsticks. "Bayushi-sama was believed to have courted women of every clan because of how handsome he was. He apparently pulled a trick on a Kenku trickster. In another tale, he apparently sailed the world but his ship was shrunk by some gaijin magic so he set out to find the sorcerer and defeat him... Yeah I know, it all seems like a tall tale eh?"

"Handsome, neeh." Horonigai presses her lips. "Sokka, sokka... tell me more: what is considered to be his best trait?"

"From my reading, I would have to say his charm. It is most disarming. You can do anything with simple words and smile. It sometimes can cut deeper than a katana... Of course I am paraphrasing one of the lines from this text."

"Eeeehhh..." She narrows her eyes at him. "Sooodesuka?"

Horonigai lips flatten in a thin smile. "Otomo-san would suffice with one true love, eeh. That's dangerous."

"Not quite." he replied as he placed his hands on the table.

"If I may speak freely, I do not subscribe to this asinine notion that everyone has one true love. I also do not see the need to court half the known world for just pleasure. Having one love for all of your existence only hurts you in the long run. Having all the course is no better than being the bee trying to pollenate every single damned flower. You'll tire yourself out."

Ryuji leaned forward just slightly. A small smile formed as he met her eyes.

"I like to be that particular bee that has but a small number of flowers to have. Those flowers would be special only to me and they all would be equally special. I'm not at all naive and I'm greedy. I am a man of particular taste...."

He returned to his original position, picked up his bowl and chopsticks. "If that makes sense? I did not mean to be so pointed Seppun-sama. Gomennasai." he took a bite of rice and gave her a polite smile.

She raises eyebrows, admired at the sincerity he just gifted her. The Imperial lady bows in thanks. "Ja, ne, that was very transparent, Otomo-san. Thank you to share such a confidential thing with me."

Horonigai chickles rolling her eyes a bit, "Perhaps that is what all the finest gentleman of this Empire want. A garden of their own. I may be young, but I've noticed similar... I won't say desire, but hopeful plans from others. It might not be so particular as Otomo-san thinks."

She smiles. "The flowers, though. How does Otomo-san you like them?"

Ryuji reached for his water just in case he sipped too much and drank it.

"The flower before me now is most appealing." he smiled a bit shyly.

She chuckles and waves a hand at him. "Stop flattering me so much. I don't deserve this praise. You'll end up bruised with the amount of thorns."
