"So... adopted? Or... a relative's child you're looking after?" Maiya tried to puzzle out this new information. "Ano, that is if it's not a secret."

To Miwako's reply Amaya can only shrug with a smile. Indeed, that got the point across.

She blinks when her cousin, usually much quicker on the uptake, seems to have struggled following this conversation. That is a small surprise.

Thus she nods, when Miwako clarifies further.

"How could a not-mother know?" She helpfully adds.

And then Maiya continues being confused.

"We are not yet." She turns to tell her cousin.

"I got that bit." Maiya responded defensively. Then Amaya explained a bit more and she finally got it.

"Oh. Us. Not yet. Ok."

She returned her attention to her tea rather than say anything else foolish.

The younger Crab giggles softly and gives her cousin a gentle pat on the shoulder.

She knows that her stubborn tendency to condense whole sentences into single words can sometimes lead to interesting misunderstandings.

Pouring herself another cup of tea, Maiya silently nods. The tea had most of her attention now. She sipped it quietly.
