Having gotten her orders, Aya was staking out the front of the Scorpion embassy. Her hand grasped firmly around her weapon.

She kept to the shadows. This was the part that Norikami was always the worst at.

But Aya, why can't we just go out and bang two pots together and fight whatever comes out. I've got a big sword you know! completely misremembered Norikami whined.

Chen got his start early this morning heading out to do....well whatever it is you do in a town only hours away from being besieged. He smiled and nodded or bowed to various figures as he exited the building wishing them good morning.

He almost always tried to keep his eyes out for anything a miss but today seemed like a morning like any other.

The rock struck home expertly and the unaware samurai was hit by the rock and frantically looked to where it likely came from "Hey! What was that about?" He said with just a touch of heat and rubbing his arm where it struck.

Aya laughed at that.

"Ah, Chen, Chen, Chen-san." she said stepping out from the shadows, and consulting a piece of paper.

"Mandatory Field Testing, Candidate: Bayushi Chen. Situational Awareness: Failed. Reflexes Test: Failed."

Aya made a disappointed sound.

"I really thought you'd pass one or the other, if not both. What would you do if I was actually a threat?" she said.

"Aya-san? Well this is certainly not how I imagined my morning going, ambushed by a Yogo. He leaned down and picked up the rock.

"So whats all this business about tests? Are you sure you just didn't think it would be funny to throw a rock at me?"he scrutinized the stone before looking back to the Yogo.

Aya grinned.

"I am shocked and appalled that you think I would asaault noble and upstanding samurai from stealth just because it would be funny." she offered.

She gestured to the paper.

"No, it's orders. No true Scorpion questions their orders, we merely fulfill our duty and carry them out to our fullest."

"What orders have to assaulting people while they are just waking up? I had a late night last night can't expect me to just wake up and fight off assassins." He grumbles "let me see your orders." He extended his hand for the paper.

Aya grinned...and took a step back.

"But Chen-san....they're seeeeeecret orders. Only meant for my eyes." she says. "It wouldn't be much of an alertness test if you were warned in advance, ne?"

Chen narrowed his eyes at her for a moment letting the moment hang in the air his glare vs her smirk finally he sighed "fine. Are you done though? Or are there to be more tests of me today?" He asked only mildly exasperated.

Aya glanced down at the paper again thoughtfully.

"Hmmm, let's see....Investigative prowess: Fail. Determination: Fail.....Hmmm.."

She looked back up.

"Nah, that's all of them...at least all of the one's I'm allowed to reveal at the moment. But you should be wary Chen-san. You never know when or how life might test you in any number of ways." she offered.

He sighed slightly rubbing the bridge of his nose "Well Aya-san are you to shadow me with tests all the time now? Would you like to get breakfast? Or do you have another to torment this morning?" The exasperation had given way to a teasing quality a gentle ribbing.

"I can answer one of those three questions, and give you one of my own. What would you like for breakfast?" she asked.

He gave her a bit of side eye as he tucked the stone into his kimono "I generally tend towards food, not all of us can gain sustenance from the suffering of others."

"Ah, but Chen-san, even when there is no food to be had, especially when there's no food to be had, suffering is an abudance. But I thought you might have a specific place you wanted to go to. Try new places to eat before Nikesake is overrun and devoured, ya know?" she teased.

"I suppose I can't fault your wisdom there. But no can't say I've done much city exploration been busy and honestly most of the time I just have meals brought to me at the embassy or grab some Ramen from a cart. If you have any ideas I'm more than willing to hear them."

"Not really no. Personally I'd be happy with the first decent place that looks relatively clean. I'll leave the actual selection up to you though." she demurred.

Chen raised an eyebrow at Aya's behavior but eventually shrugged it off. "Well come on then, let's get something to eat before the Returned bust down the gates and we have to spend days on the road." He said waiving Aya to follow him as he headed toward the market area.

Well, she hadn't marked him a failure on any more secret tests, so Chen had that going for him.

"Hm, well we best eat well then. If we have to evacuate again, it'll be trail rations until we get to.....wherever we'd evacuate too." she offered.

Aya wasn't hugely proficient on Lion geography.

Chen shrugged "depends on if we plan to stay in the path of the Hantei or move out of it. We have both options here, I imagine the plan is to continue to try and delay him from reaching the capital to give the regent time to prepare defenses."

"So may I ask who has asked you to administer these tests?" He asked with a small grin.
