Aya smirked a bit.

"Well, I don't have them anymore, so I can't loan them to you, but I can assure you they are real things." she assured.

She looked at a book labeled Whee! Bronin and a Trout! "Tsk, poor quality knockoff".

"But that is true. After all, all rumors must start with a truth. It wouldn't be honorable or belivable to simply make them up whole cloth. If someone told you, "Asako Kashiwagi is going to announce his claim to be the Emperor', you'd know that was false, and it wouldn't be honorable to tell that to anyone else."

"Or at the very least, it would be very believable and wouldn't spread very well. Then again, I know first hand it doesn't take much for people to find that little thing when they want to."

"Honestly, I think the people of the Empire just weren't used to Unicorn fashions, that's what it was."

That didn't elaborate much, but it gave a hint perhaps.

Aya shrugged a bit.

"You'll have to be a bit more clear, Yuka-san. I've heard everything from 'The Unicorn kill bears and wear their bodies as armor' to 'The Unicorn kill three squirrels and cover their naughtiest bits with the pelts and bits of string.'" she says, unashamedly.

She looked around conspiratorially before leaning in, "Long story short, I had a bawdy song being passed around about my letting a Scorpion use my lap as a pillow, and how soft he claimed my legs were. It wasn't true; The song was about how much he liked my eyes. I think people bought it because many Unicorn wear more open garb than many any the Empire would be comfortable with in the summer; More comfortable in the Burning Sands, and more comfortable to ride in. So I think people bought the rumor because of that."

She stood back up straight with a slight frown, "I mean, unless they thought I was that sort of woman, really..."

It is at about that time that a Tortoise comes up the street, slowly, perusing the titles and occasionally smiling at what he sees.

Then he sees the Yogo and the Yasuki, and he bows.

She smiles a bit at the Crab's story.

"Well, I can see how either tale would easily spread." she says, than rather than allow the Yasuki to comment on agreeing that she had a comfortable lap, she bowed to the Tortoise.

"Afternoon...Kasuga-san?" she said, not that familiar with tortoise. "Find anything interesting?"

He smiles.

"I'm Yogo Aya, and I'm sure you know Yasuki Yukarin." she said, getting them through the introductions.

"Old friends, hm? Any of them particular good for a young lady who doesn't know what she wants, but is willing to try something a bit more daring?" she asks.

She grins a bit.

"Not for either of us, of course, but for a friend."

He grins.

Aya taps her chin.

"I'm not familiar with that one. Sounds nautical. Did you friend say anything about it other than it was good?" she asked.

"As for how daring, they're still at the stage where any mention of romance is daring."

"A pleasure, Yasuki-san, and, yes, Yogo-san, it is nautical. Much in it about exploring the deeps and the treasures therein--of which there are many. Lots of rowers plying their oars in a pitching boat, as well. But perhaps a bit...advanced for such a friend as you describe; it is no small journey to where the whales swim best."

He pauses, cups his chin.

"The same for the next in the series, Returning to Port. Though coming home is a good coming in any event, it benefits from reading the earlier volumes. For someone new to sailing the seas of such pages, though, perhaps something closer in. Maybe Swelling Sails, to enter the series earlier. Or, if the salt spray does not tickle the friend's fancy, Mitsubachi might work, though my friends who know of such things are not as fond of that author."

Yukarin was really wet behind the ears when it came to nautical innuendo, so most of that sailed merrily over her head. She thought the books sounded kind of boring, really. Who wanted to hear about sailors standing at attention and braving the deepest depths anyways besides other sailors anyways?

The Yogo, though, was apparently not so easy to slip around with the inuendo.

"Hmm, Swelling Sails might be the ideal choice then. Allow her to get her feet wet, as it were, and provided that particular current does not wash her away, she can dive a bit deeper." she offered.

"But you've picqued my curiousity, Seitouna-san. What has the author of Mitsubachi done to earn such disfavor?" she asked.

So familiar already? thinks Seitouna as he responds "It is not so much that the writer of Mitsubachi is disfavored as that that of Swelling Sails is more favored, being more familiar and closer to home, as it were. But home-port pride cannot be chafed at, I think.

"Though one wonders, Aya-san," he continues, assuming the same familiarity she had, "if your own friends are familiar with the wetter novels."
