She laughed in understanding. "Agreed. It's popular among the Hida and Hiruma too."

Feeling quite merry by this point she shifts to a more comfortable seating posture with a quiet 'excuse me' to avoid offense.

"She was trained as a courtier among the Yasuki. Her husband, being an Ikoma, was considered a good match. A Kitsune nadoka actually suggested it. An old friend of my father. They wrote each other letters. My sister was pleased too, as she had met him over Winter two years ago and they had a mutual respect."

"That sounds like a lovely match then, one even perhaps Benten smiles upon. I just recently met one of the Yasuki here, she is quite the woman."

"I hope they are so blessed, hai." However, her eyes had lit up as she was more curious about Mogami's words. She ventured a guess with a curious smile. "... Yasuki Yukarin-sama?"

Mogami's eyes flash with something...desire perhaps? but only for a moment.

"Indeed. We spent some time walking the Street of Scrolls and enjoying what it offers together. She has taken to her new clan quite well, your lords should be proud!"

"I could speak for my Lords." She replied demurely, giving her cheek a little rub. "But, she is indeed quite the woman and she gives us every reason to be proud, hai. She is very generous and warm company."

Not being the most aware woman in the Empire by quite a margin Maiya completely misses any hint of Mogami's feelings toward the Yasuki.

"Your is good company too, Kaiu-san! I am glad we met! Though, perhaps next time a little less Sake for me. The headache the morning after was something."

Mogami finishes the rest of her rice and sets the bowl down, covered by her chopsticks signalling she is finished. There is still quite a bit of greens and another fish or two on the table.

"You spoke earlier that you were a smith. Have you done all the repair work on your armor yourself?"

I would hope so. Lowering her hand, she quirks her eyebrows a bit but smiles a moment later. "I'm glad too. Ano, next time, please let me escort you home, ne?"

Seeing Mogami finish she lifts her chopsticks to help herself to a little of the remaining greens and one of the small fish. Waste not want not. There would still be some left afterwards if the budoka were further hungry.

"Hai, Matsu-sama. I did not make it, but I keep my armour in good condition. If your own smiths are ever busy you're welcome to seek me out at the inn we met."

"T-thank you." Maiya replies stiffly, her eating slowing as she felt abashed at the praise. "Ano, it was a gift from my Lord, but... I think it was more my parents calling in some favours."

"It is most impressive. I imagine it would take quite a bit of work to get past its protection. Such a thing would be wasted on me though I fear, Kyujutsu doesn't pair well with restricted movements. "

To this she nods in agreement a couple times after finishing a mouthful of delicious fish.

"Hai. This is why few trained among the Hida really learn archery. It's possible to get used to heavy armour and shooting arrows, but it comes more naturally to the Hiruma family and those schooled with them."

She had a little more rice before asking something on her mind.

"Ja, your training focused on kyujutsu Matsu-sama?" She was far more used to hearing about Matsu focusing on melee, so this was a surprise.

"The War College focused on all aspects of warfare, Battle tactics, Juijutsu, Kenjutsu, Kyutusu, Defensive measures...but I have a great gift for Kyujutsu. My instructors said I was the best that they have seen in a century."

Maiya's face clouded over for a moment before she blinked and refocused.

"Sorry, ano, that's very impressive Matsu-sama. We are fortunate to have you here when the city is in danger, ne?"

Mogami gives a small smile.

"We all have our talents, Kaiu-san. I am sure the ashigaru will be emboldened when they see you in the finest armor of the Kaiu fighting next to them"

"I suppose." Maiya eventually concedes.

Finished with her meal, she sets her chopsticks down and says the usual phrase. With that out of the way she looks around Mogami's room a little.

"When was your gempukku Matsu-sama?"

She moves to top up Mogami's cup.

"Thank you for the meal today Matsu-sama. When the enemy comes, please remember me if you or your budoka need any armour repairs or such. I owe you, ne?"
