"Somgai?" She continued to smile brightly. "He's a scout. It would be difficult to find a man more at home in the wilderness. I first met him in the Shinomen, during the naga conflict."

"Wow, is that so? You both fought against the naga?" This was some news. Didn't that make Miwako a war hero? The naga had been tormenting the whole Empire before the force that marched on them had put their assaults to an end.

Amaya meanwhile barely listens to the discussion. Instead she tenderly taps the baby girl's reaching fingers with a softly hummed. "Boop."

Until her index finger is caught in the surprisingly firm grip very young baby's have. A soft laugh of her own escapes the smaller Crab then.

"Primarily, I was there to tend to our wounded." she explained. "But, I did do some scouting, as well."

Maiya's attention was caught by her cousin's interactions with the baby. She smiled softly as she observed them.

"You scouted for the army and you found a husband too. A very successful expedition." The Crab glanced toward the Phoenix. "We are fortunate to have met you Isawa-sama. We are very grateful for your kindness."

"I am grateful for your presence." she said. "I have little doubt that we will need every warrior. The lives of my family may very well be in your hands."

She freed her hands and placed them in front of herself as she turned to Miwako. She then bows low and politely.

"We will keep you and your family safe as long as we still draw breath Isawa-sama. We'll protect as many as we can."

"We are defenders. We defend." Amaya adds in softly. With the baby in her lap, she does not move more than to simply incline her head for a moment, before focusing back on Wagikashi.

Extricating her index finger slowly, she carefully picks the baby up again from her lap to sway the child gently in her arms.

"Of course." she nodded. "And, I am a healer. Come to me if you get injured."

Amaya gives a small nod in response, without looking away adorable little Wagikashi. "Will do. Thank you."

"She's falling asleep." Miwako smiled at Wagikashi. "You'll be a good mother, Kaiu-san."

That statement catches Amaya by surprise and she begins to blush. This time she does not choose to be silent, but actually does not know how to respond.

She is a fighter. Always out and in danger. Often enough on the far side of The Wall. Does she dare think about it?

"You'll know when the time is right, Kaiu-san." The Phoenix assured her. "This is an uncertain world, but some things just feel right."

That sentiment is actually a little comforting and Amaya gives Miwako a grateful smile in response.

"Here, let me lie her down again." She held out her hands. "We'll pour you a fresh cup of tea."

"When I say she'll make a good mother she pouts at me. When Isawa-sama says it she smiles. This must be the magic of babies." Maiya comments with a teasing grin as she observes Amaya.

Very carefully and gently, Amaya hands the sleepy baby back over to the mother. With a grateful, but also slightly wistful smile on her lips.

Then she points at Miwako, while looking at her cousin, and states softly. "Mother."

She follows this up by gesturing at herself with a calm "Not." and repeats the same statement with a finger pointing at Maiya.

"Not yet." the Isawa corrected with a grin after setting Wagikashi in the cradle.

The other Crab just has a long and slow sip of tea as she watches her cousin with amusement. Fine, fine, I'm not a mother so you won't listen to me about mother stuff.

She had intended to say something, but then Miwako said her curious words and that caught Maiya's intention. "Not yet Isawa-sama?"
