"The best things would be colors. A chop of crab colors and crane, assuming they are in clan colors. There aren't details of Crab wandering lion lands, least of all led by one in your clan colors. I will include the thought that they bear a blade that is awake, and powerful. The spirits might know that. Anything else, it would be outside of their understanding in all likelihood."

She nodded a bit to the others. "I worry that it is far from their place, but it is at least something."

(OOC: I'm going to with hold actually casting the spell until Mindshred completes the three combat threads and has a moment to breathe so probably tomorrow. however, she doesn't know Air spells, so she has 2 free slots for this cast. I'll contact them about whether Sense, Commune or Summon is more appropriate or even possible.)

She nodded over towards him. "For traditional prayers, yes. Without question. It may also help my spirits I contact. For anything other shugenja do, that alone will be one o the greatest tools."

Masahiko watched the exchange silently, pondering the interesting way the ronin had with people. Still, he offered a bow of respect to Ayanojo for his contribution.

"Very well. I will attempt something with your collective permission," she said, walking towards one of the windows and pulling a scroll of summoning and a scroll of communing. She was decidedly unsure if this would really do anything, but in her view it wouldn't hurt. She would wait for leave to cast, but an open window was all that she really needed.

She turned back to the Kakita and waited for his leave in particular since the others seemed to defer to him.

"This should do. We don't have a Crab, but I can tell the bird it is a darker color," she said, nodding and setting it before the scroll of summoning. Closing her eyes and focusing because she really didn't summon birds very often due to her deficiencies in Air, she could feel her exertion start to pay off. Her hands reached out in supplication to the window, hoping to get the attention of a little bird...

As she began her magic, Masahiko produced a pad of paper and a brush and sketched out the Crab mon so that the deficiency in their equipment would be corrected.

There is a swirl of greenish light, and then a derpy-looking bird with a long break and fat body popped into existence. Its feet paddle in the air for a moment before gravity takes hold and it plops to the ground.

Mari sighed to herself, not entirely sure that this bird spirit would be able to do the job. She could, however, still try to communicate with it and get it to obey her commands. Kneeling down, she settled with the two colored chops in one hand and reached to offer her hand to scoop up the bird with the other.

"Come, little one," she said as she attempted to lift it up and show it towards the window, pointing. "Beyond that wall, that way. I want you to find one person covered in this color." She gestured towards the light blue, and then the dark blue after. "Surrounded by men in this color. Go, find him and return to me. Tell me the direction."

She really wasn't sure that this bird was up to it, but anything better than this was close to a crapshoot. She could get these people one hell of an Earth spirit, but they needed an Air, and... not exactly her forte. Hopefully the effort she'd put in at least caused the thing to understand her orders better.

Akemi watched in silence also, curious like Ayanojo. She wasn't sure how well this would work, as the Spirits seem to come from every clan, but she wanted to believe it was possible.

The bird tilts its head at the picture, then turns and scrambles up the wall, using its beak and feet to climb up to the window. It haunches down, wiggles its bottom, and then leaps outside, wings flapping... only to fall to the ground with a plop. That doesn't seem to deter it, however, as it keeps running away into the distance.

She sighed when she saw what was... basically a dodo go off and be... what a dodo was. It was, however, at least an intelligent creature as spirits went, if not the most... kami, but it was more likely...

"You know, I'm actually grateful it's a flightless bird. It might take considerably longer in its task, but the fact remains that they're less likely to shoot it down as a possible carrier pigeon," she said, rubbing at her forehead. "Very well... I do not pretend to promise that this will give us any actual results, but keep an eye out. It may return to me. It may return here. We will see in time. In the meantime, I imagine that more powerful shugenja may have other thoughts."

Oi. Bloody birds. Why couldn't the blasted crane champion get lost in a cave somewhere. I could send a badger to dig him out or something more salient then.

Ayanojo was covering his mouth, not to stop any sound but definitely to hide the absolute look of amusement on his face. Now was not a time to be laughing at a bird spirit.

Masahiko was careful not to let his disappointment show, but inwardly was most disconcerted.

Who is going to let it through the gates?

"Thank you for your effort, Samurai-san. It is much appreciated. Sincerely."

He bowed formally to Mari, who after all had done her best. Then he looked to Ayanojo and Akemi with an expression of supplication, "If anyone wanted to try other methods, the Crane clan would be most grateful."

Akemi had also brought up a sleeve to cover her face, and she managed to stiffle her laugh.

She was back to looking...close to serious when a question was asked.

"Ano...it depends how far away he is. If he was carrying anything extremely distinctive, we could use the kami to create a....imaginary copy, and then ask the kami to take a message to someone with that specific item."

She looked to the other air shugenja.

"I...can't think of anything else from the air kami that could assist. There might be something the Water could do if someone has personally handled an object that Doji-dono has on their person."
