The smaller shape wearing an old but well cared for set of heavy armour bearing multiple Kaiu mons, who is standing next to Kaiu Maiyu turns her head towards Kayou. She had been listening quite intently to the grandly speaking snake men, who has a real way with words.

Now though, she gently pats Maiyu's shoulder to get her attention and then gesture towards the battle nun.
After all, her cousin is the one usually working with armour. She herself is better with weapons.

Kayou nods to the Kiau. "This one fears her usual armor is suited for hunting bandits, not the war we face today."

Kitamaru did much the same. There was tension in the air, some might be excited. The Scorpion was not.

If he were fortunate, he'd be called by his Lady to die so she could escape.

With so many trapped in the walls now, it could be a poor siege. Though if tales of the spirit army's impetuousness, and lead by a Matsu general besides, were true...then this would be a messy affair.

Kitamaru nodded.

"Then our best must be better, not many places to go after Nikesake."

She looks up, biting her lips to envision the area. "Iie. Iie. Nikesake is a much better fortification than Toshi no Omodoiso. It could stand for longer. Yet, I've heard the Steel Chrysanthemum razed this city before, so this won't be something new to them. Fleeing routes are Toshi Ranbo, or –– to the ones that can keep resisting –– the Castle of the Emerald Champion."

Horonigai nods. "Eto. A big army like the one we saw a couple of days ago, glowing red in the dark, should need of a base before they take a final assault."

"The Steel Chrysanthemum razed the city before, having sent the Seppun to do so, during the middle of a famine." The monk interjects. "We know because they missed two samurai who escaped. Thankfully he does not have an army of Seppun at his command." He bows in respect to the Seppun who'd brought it up.

He looks out to the rainy day. "Or so the scrolls I read said, of the heroes who found a way to spread the word and survive. Whether or not this army stays when we hold them off is another story. Their actions during the last fighting were that they overwhelm and move like water, going around obstacles instead of through them."

Maiya hadn't noticed due to the naga's incredibly uplifting speech. She felt quite inspired in fact!

Only with her cousin's helpful pat did she turn to see what was going on. "Gomen nasai. Please excuse me."

She bows as much as her armour allowed.

"I am Kaiu Maiya. You mentioned armour? Eto, there may not be enough time to do what you need. Did you have some armour that needed adjusting?"

"At the very least, this one would like to combines these parts into a functional whole," says Kayou. She has the pieces of used but well kept ashigaru armor as well as various items from the training armor, hopefully enough to combine into something a bit more protective.

"Rage is oft enough to replace hunger, rest and even breath...at least to kill an enemy", Kitamaru contended. "They'll have a plan for the walls, we might not get rest tonight."

He stood up and made sure his armor settled, bending his knees and rotating one arm and then the other.

Then he shook his head, as if dispelling anything he'd said already, suddenly feeling foolish and looked at Horonigai. The eyes of his fox mask seemed to ooze some manner of amusement.

"Shosuro Kitamaru." he bowed.

Definitely not the time to associate passive-aggressive insults to the one's Family, trying to connect the ill doings of a Tyrant with the duty of those that have to obey, Horonigai's eyes narrow at the monk for the second time.

"Sent the Seppun... during a famine..." She repeats Kodama's words, and asks, sternly, "What is that supposed to mean?"

His speech haven been given, perhkaps a little too well, he saw an argument brewing. He slithered over to where Horo and Kodama were, making soothing motions with his hands. "Our enemy is at our gates. Arguing among ourselves will just do their job for them" He looked between them, a faint smile meant to be inviting on his face.
