The Dragon shrugs. "Unexpected things often make people uneasy at first. I am not so advanced as to be an exception. But mostly..." a gesture of her hand encompasses her general appearance--shaven head, tattoos, scant and utilitarian clothing over the musculature of a martial artist-- "do I look to you like a prized bride traded between clans?" A soft laugh bubbles in her throat. "My lineage, if I had not died to it when I changed lives, was nothing special either."

She tucks her hands back into her sleeves against the chilly breeze that accompanies the endless rain. "I was offered marriage because of a personal service I had the great fortune to perform. I did not expect that, but it wasn't unwelcome. The Unicorn I have known are kind, brave people. Of course," she shrugs again, this time perhaps a little sadly, "now I do not know when most of them will return, or if they are safe. I hope so."

"Hm? You haven't heard?" Myo-en casts Ren a curious glance.

"Ah. Congratulations to you." Myo-en continues to regard Ren with at least mild curiosity. "It is said that before the winter snows began, the lords of the Unicorn received knowledge that the Kami Shinjo herself is still among mortals, but in danger. 'That a child should love their parents is fate'--of course they would ride to the rescue." Her expression becomes more opaque as she recounts this--it's hard to tell how she feels about it, or perhaps she herself is uncertain.

"I don't know exactly. Many, with the Em--the late Emperor's blessing. Enough stayed to manage the Clan lands, but not much more." Myo-en's shoulders move in an ambiguous shrug, once again provoking the napping crow to shift its balance. "The Clan rode out to save their founder. Who would choose to stay, if she had a choice?
