"But she is as she always has been. Perhaps the situation is different for other persons blessed with the good fortune to speak regularly with their ancestors."

What? She couldn't help but think regarding the grandmother comment.

"I see..." she said after some hesitation. It wasn't that she didn't believe Masahiko, just a certainly a peculiar note with someone who didn't have their ancestor visiting them often. "It still must have made for an interesting with this many spirits out at once, for the both of you."

"I don't know if she's aware of them, Mirumoto-sama, except insofar as I might encounter them. And as I haven't...." He shrugged. "But I'm not entirely certain how it all works. Sometimes I think I have just enough knowledge to be confidently wrong."

"I can't say I know what's exactly happening...but potentially, they are affecting a large portion of the Lion guards at the gates?" She tried to make some sense out of it and quickly shook her head. "Gomen, this is perhaps not a good topic to dwell on, as I could only guess and cannot fathom to even understand what's truly happening here."

"I am sure Mirumoto-sama's guess is at least worth checking out. Wouldn't do to find the gates were opened just when the battle comes along, now, would it?"

"No..." she said at first, although the possibilities of it being true were already brewing in the back of her mind. "We would have lost without a fight. It is concerning that these returned spirits might take shape as someone you might know from a previous life. I would imagine that more than a few here might take pause at that or even surrender if they find themselves before someone they revere. The distractions in the city are bad enough but they might cost a few lives on the battlefield."

"More than a few, I think. I would have a hard time fighting Granny."

He tilted his head in consideration.

"Of course, if she were trying very hard to kill me, I think I could probably do it." A longer pause. "Maybe."

"I think we're glad to have you on our side of the gates then, Kakita-san," she said with a nod while hiding back a smile. "It's good to know that we could at least depend on you...But how much would you truly know about your honoured grandmother's training and skills?"

"Oh, she was a master flower-arranger. He designs were deadly." He smiled. "I jest a little, but she really was quite good. I'm not sure it would be much of a fight, though."

"Kind of strange to think if you could defeat your ancestor..." she laughed lightly. "But an interesting thought exercise and perhaps far more relevant than we realize. My family has a tradition of bushi, so I suppose I would probably have quite some difficulty on my side. You should still probably be wary of being sucked into a flower arrangement duel. Not all battles could be done with just a conventional weapons, ne?"
