Have no fear. We don't even have enough scaercrows to pretend to hold that much territory and the Lion are a temporary friend at this point, i feel.

Well, yes, but arguably that's all a secondary effect of their prime directive to diffuse Clan power and promote centralization.

Some of it's also practical, for sure, but in many cases the clans would be perfectly happy to handle things like conscripting for the Legions, counting taxes, distributing proclamations, etc... it's just that letting them do so would further dilute the power of the Emperor (which already has some hard practical limits, because centrally administering a sprawling empire with premodern transport & communication technology is hard, yo).

I thought they were busy plotting to close the Festering Pit... maybe they can compromise by yoinking all the dirt from those lands the Scorpion don't have the manpower to farm and dumping it in there? :lol:

Clans do their own taxes and even print their own Koku - they just have to then pay a certain amount up the chain to the emperor.

Crab shouldn't have given the 25% of ex-Scorpion land back. I mean, it makes no sense. You need extra land for growing food. You take it by getting half of a neighbour's land. You lose half as the Lion get involved. The war ends. You hand over the half you had left.

So, lots of lives and resources wasted to... annoy the Scorpion, not really benefit the Phoenix (they still lost land, which the Lion kept) and you have your original problem staring you in the face. "Like, hiiii, did you forget about me?"

We fought that one out pretty hard in the Crab fora at Kyuden Agasha. At the time, the majority felt like it seemed like the best way out of a long-term losing situation. The Scorpion and Lion weren't just going to stop fighting, after all.

Remember, we had just come off of Shiro Hiruma, and thought the Empire was going to work toward unity. We miscalculated.

The Phoenix also made it pretty clear that they weren't interested in anything but peace with the Lion, so we felt like continuing the war wasn't really in our allies' interests.

The Crab were in a losing situation before the war. They had not enough land to feed themselves. Now they have the same lack of land, an extra castle to defend and far more Imperial taxes.

The Scorpion and Lion might have kept fighting, but so could the Crab. Rather than give up. There's always the prospect of a peace deal - which technically they had with the Scorpion.

It just looked like the Crab kicked up a big fuss of a war and then fled with their tail between their legs when it got hard. After sacrificing so much.

Believable however! The Hida should perhaps give the champion seat to the Yasuki. They are the most competent family.

At the time, I was not happy about how things played out. Now, I just get annoyed when people choose to give folks who were trying their best a hard time years after the fact.

Kyuden Agasha was my very first game. I got off my lazy bum and got a job and an Imperial bride in the short-term and a whole lot of make-go-boom things in the long-term.

I can't believe how much time it's been since then!

It's just best to leave the past in the past. Everyone is trying their best. Sometimes our best is just not good enough.

Take it from some one who failed to impress at Black Scroll, died at Shiro Hiruma witout inflicting a single wound on their killer, led the most disasterous crane delegation at WC:KA.....

ooof. th e crane delegation had it rough. All bushi, no courtiers. It doesn't help that we mantis squeezed hard because of someone making a misstep. In the end, the best you can do is step back, and try to enjoy the story as a whole.
