[D9 LE Scorpion embassy] Orders From on High (closed)

Chen had little patience for the game this evening, it being the trying and confusing day that it was he foundba back way to the embassy and did his best to evade notice. It was only as he approached the door to Sukima's room and thus an area surrounded by servants and other staying near by that he forced a smile onto his face.

He rapt lightly on the door three times and waited for a response.

Sukima answered the door, somewhat dressed down, though the lowest of the top layers of her outfit still on and formally tied. Her hair is loose, though. "Bayushi-san. Please, come in." She stepped back, allowing him inside. "Are you well?"

He bowed to her as he moved passed her into the room "Truthfully? I'm not sure. The events as of late have been troubling and Shosuro-ue has been too busy it seems to receive me, but I persevere."

He took a breath and looked to her "and how are you? I hear you gave quite the impassioned speech today in court. Admirable considering today must have been a big one for you as well." He said finding a spot in the room to stand.

She bowed and stepped over to the table, putting on a put of tea for them. "The tea will take a few minutes."

"I... did some soul searching, and said what I believed," she replied with a small smile. "Did you hear of Seppun Kato's proclamation earlier today?"

"Thank you." He said in answer to the tea "I wish I could have been there. It's always good to see someone say what they believe in. Especially when it aligns with what I believe." He said returning her smile.

He nodded to her question "Yes, do you believe it?" He asked rather bluntly "the claim he makes of the heir do you he is lying?"

"I don't believe it at all," she stated bluntly. "My brother had been betrayed by too many people not to be extremely careful with this choice of spouse. That was the crux of my argument earlier today. Of course, Kato knows as well as I do that it's not a matter of whether something is true so much as who is saying it's true and who believes it."

She smiled. It wasn't a pleasant smile. "Fortunately, despite his power grabs, my voice as a daughter of Hantei XXI still carries similar weight to his. And that sort of accusation really just sounds like spreading sordid rumors instead of relying on his own merits."

he nodded "for better or worse our whole society operates under such a principal, whether or not something is true is less important than the rank of the person saying it. But yes we are quite fortunate to have someone of such importance that has not only some sense but also is loyal to The Empire. Honestly this wrinkle with Kato-sama is not what we needed right now, with half the lion succumbing to the whims of their ancestors and showing support to the returned and the lion here with us doing little to help things. This is....just another thing on our plate."

She nodded firmly at that, the shrugged. "Most of the time, the Lion's honor isn't a bad thing, but it does cause its share of trouble." She sighed. "My mother was a Kitsu. I heard my ancestors calling to me as well, today."

"He did it precisely because he knew we couldn't afford it. Divide and conquer. I wonder what he has over Bayushi-sama... or what Bayushi-sama is planning..."

he nodded "My mother was an Ikoma, I've dealt with it myself, I just could honestly not give a shit what some old dead lioness thinks I should do."

"As for Bayushi-sama I wouldn't be surprised if they were simply positioning themselves in the most profitable position they could put themselves in. Either they are at Kato's side when he takes the throne or they are in the best position to take out a threat to the Empire should he lose." he mused out loud.

She couldn't help but break into a laugh at that. "I felt the same."

She nodded. "I suspect something similar, but I can't help but feel like it's worth making sure nothing is... amiss. No word so far, but I intend to continue looking into it."

He could not hold back a smirk as she burst into laughter at his comment "I'm glad I find myself in good company. You have a beautiful laugh Yogo-sama."

"I suppose I should just focus my efforts here and ensure that we live to sort all these things out. I had been tracking people who were sympathetic to the Returned Hantei's cause for further monitoring but the list seems to have more than doubled over the past few days, meaning it will be much harder to monitor those that may cause us issues in the coming siege."

She nodded. "Though I doubt they're going to make trouble during the siege unless they're the returned spirits themselves. They hopefully know that the spirits aren't going to discriminate."

Chen exhaled air in a quick burst from his nose in a scoff "I'd rather not place my hope in the intelligence of those who would consider the Returned Hantei's claim in the first place. Though perhaps I can put faith in their own sense of self preservation."

Chen shook his head a bit clearing his mind of thoughts of events that are yet to pass "So tell me how the sister of the emperor finds her way to marrying into the Yogo of all families."

She sighed. "Sometimes I'm too optimistic about humanity... especially considering how many people will seem to betray each just just for giggles."

She sat back. "Someone made the mistake of pushing me to get married but giving me the option of choosing where to go. So I made a choice that would ensure they regret their decision."

that made his eyebrows raise but then an amused smile crept onto his lips "So you married into the Yogo, possibly one of the most dangerous families to marry into, out of defiance? There is much more to you than a pretty face Yogo-sama. You're quite the interesting person. I think I'd like to learn more about you f you'd allow me the pleasure."

She nodded, giving a small shrug. "I never got along incredibly well with the family I abdicated to join. Of course I'm more than a pretty face. More than a bloodline, too. One doesn't hold position in the Scorpion without being capable."

"I wouldn't mind getting to know you better at all."

"Only sometimes true Yogo-sama, I've dealt with my fair share of useless high born scorpion who hold station because their parents are important. But yes its true the clan does tend to weed out those who are weak."

At her second comment he chuckled a little "I'm afraid I'm nothing exciting Yogo-sama, I'd hate to bore you with my sad stories."
