The yoriki was attentive to the story at least, considering the aspect of it.

"Hmm. It a fairly easy blind spot to overlook. Although, I would expect a magistrate to be more aware about those who are not samurai. If at least nothing else to monitor for possible rebellion." she mused.

She thought about it.

"A blind spot for me to it would seem. I was thinking about the Lion samurai with voices in their heads, along with my own. I wonder if the peasantry is affected? I mean, it would be deeply shameful for a peasant to have a Lion samurai ancestor....but I'd be willing to bet that it happens...and such a person might be more susceptible to the spirit's influence."

"We'll have to watch for that," he agrees. "A samurai's constitution might be enough to fight off the influence, but there's little chance that the lesser classes could muster such resistance."

Aya nods.

"From what I heard of the battle at the gates in Toshi no Omidoiso, the forces were very mixed. A peasant in and of itself isn't a particular threat, but remove it's fear and fill it with insatiable bloodlust.....it's a bit more troublesome." she offers.

"Well, we recently received further levies escorted by a pair of Unicorn," notes Tameaki, "and they're less likely to have accidentally inherited some Lion blood than the new arrivals. That should help, at least..."

Aya shrugged at that.

"Can't say I really know anything about the Unicorn clan, magistrate. This little adventure is my first time outside the lands of the Scorpion." she admits.

"Stick with me and you'll really go places," says Tameaki, the phrase being used both figuratively and literally. "Well, you'll actually probably stay in Scorpion lands, mostly, since that's where my authority actually means something. Every so often, though, we get sent abroad to oversee legal matters in which the clan has an interest. Like this one."

The Lion in her head was ranting about a campaign across the lands of the Scorpion and burning down Kyuden Bayushi, so she was only sort of listening to the magistrate.

"Hm." she says tilting her head curiously at the magistrate. "Could I see your travelling papers, magistrate? There's something I'm curious about."

Tameaki produces a set of papers from a pouch at his side.

"All in order, of course," he says. "Naturally I can't sign for anything outside of Scorpion lands, so they were produced and signed by one of our Emerald Magistrates, who happens to be an in-law - a cousin of my wife."

Aya smirks a bit, handing the papers back.

"Ah no, I wasn't questioning their legitimacy, magistrate. I was wondering if they included your yoriki. A lot of people aren't where their travel papers said they were going with all the evacuating. While I'm sure the Lion aren't going to start telling people to go back to where they came from, it's a thought about what happens in the after, if there is an after." she said.

"Oh, that!" he exclaims, understanding her interest now. "Yes, normally they would cover any ancillary individuals, as it saves time when dealing with those who travel with an entourage. Mine, however, do not, as I came here without yoriki, or indeed anyone else but myself. If you choose to stick with me after all this - it's completely voluntary, since I drafted the two of you in response to a time of crisis - we'll have to get them updated."

"Given that this is an officially organized evacuation of a war zone," he continues, "protocol and precedence calls for such matters to be excused until the end of the threat. It can certainly be invoked, but to do so would be highly irregular in the absence of additional charges."
