"Ah yes, well, it was at least flattering to know I still possess some womanly charm, old and worn though I am."

Resuming the kata, she caught up with a series of swift motions, performing the strikes at full, rather than reduced, speed.

"I suppose it is true that a friend has a unique position - to help or to harm. I've been stung by scorpion before - why should I trust this one when he claims he does not swim?"

Ren smiled at the burst of speed... the feels were pumping through Horonigai. Her leg planted into the ground like a tree trunk and would not be moved. She grabbed the collar of Horonigai's gi and pulled her to her feet.

"Stronger."

"Still can't believe how clumsy that conversation turned." Degarashi scrubbed at his face with his free hand. "Merciful kami, if sake isn't a product of sakkaku I can't think what is."

Degarashi watched Chihaya between his fingers, not even trying to keep up with her at full speed. "I don't recall ever expressly stating that I don't swim. I most certainly can. And I've already stated once in the past day that any who speaks upon their own worth of trust clearly has none. It isn't for me to decide. Any attempt to convince you will only breed more suspicion, barring divine intervention that offers me a chance to demonstrate rather than speak to it."

Raising the bokken high, he began the kata over again.

"But you are beautiful."

Ren throws the young girl onto the ground.

"You can't get distracted. There's no escaping from yourself..." She said as she stood waiting for Horonigai to stand up again.

Horonigai hits the dojo's floor with a solid thump. She moans, and gets her eyes back at Ren. The Miharu stands back up again, and waits for the incoming assault: trying to block the best she could.

As with the day before, the Scorpion sat in seiza and watched match between the Seppun and her new opponent.

Ren was on her like lightning and grabbed her sleeve by the elbow and the inner collar of her gi.

"Nowhere to run."

It was a blink, and Horonigai was again under Ren's hands.

She tries to resist with an absurd intensity, yet seemingly weightless for onlookers, Ren maneuvers the pretty Seppun as a little kid would do to a doll.

He did not take his stance, or rush anywhere.

He sat again, a bit confused.

She shifted her hands and spun them 180 degrees around.

Knuckles cracked, neck popped, hands twisting in grip around the bokken. Yet the Shosuro remained seated even still.

She picks the woman up to be eye level with her. Looking deeply into the young woman's soul, "Are better off."

She holds her there until her legs continue to bear weight.

"Your worth is separate from any other person or title... Don't let the kuso-yaro-tachi get you down."

She then threw Horonigai on the floor again, before immediately offering a hand to help her stand.

Like a sack of worthless dirt, Horonigai hits the ground again with a loud landing. Her well kept hair already freed from the topknot, falling over her face.

It takes some heartbeats for her to rise again, but she does so. One knee first, then a hand to adjust her hair. She looks to Ren and inhales deeply.

Clearly Horonigai wants to say more, to shout more kiai, and appease her anger. Yet, in the end, Horonigai holds up for now, as honor demands. He was, after all, her superior. He was Family.

She takes Ren's hand with, perhaps, part of the lesson learned. Then, she stands. Horonigai bows sharply to Ren, offering her thanks, "Arigatou gozaimashita."

She shakes her head, "No... Thank you. It'd been a while since I had a spar with someone with so much spirit."
