[D9 EM] Spiritual Cleansing Overdue

The Doji cavalry arrived at the steps of the Crane shrine and made his way up the stairs. He needed to see about having someone care for the bodies of the fallen Crane. And he needed to have himself purified after having been covered in Airi's blood the day before. He looked around for any priest or monk that might be able to help him.

Another was there at the shrine already, offering prayers along with two budoka. While she prayed, she was quiet and serene. Midway through however, she began having a heated debate with seemingly no one.

I didn't think people had actual conversations with their ancestors or the fortunes... he thinks to himself. He doesn't want to interrupt such a conversation though, so he lets the Lion have her space.

After a while longer, Mogami stands up in a flustered huff, though an expression of victory is on her face. She glances at her budoka, who are both still praying and then begins to walk to give them space. She noticed the Crane and gives an awkward pause before bowing.

"Good morning, Doji-san. Have you had your rice today?"

"I have." He returns the bow. "And yourself?"

"A meager meal. I felt somewhat unsettled to be able to eat properly. There has been much to think on from yesterday, and I believe until a priest is able to help cleanse me from the battle I fought and ease my mind from the events that took place..my uneasiness will not pass."

"I... was actually here for a similar reason. I have not been able to leave the Embassy until recently and so I have not been able to be properly cleansed of the blood from our fallen ambassador," he says. He doesn't seem to be directing any animosity toward the Lion in general. He had been at the meeting and it had all been worked out as best it could be.

"That was...unpleasant business. You have my condolences for the loss. The Honor of the Crane should never be questioned again however, at least by me. Doji Kioshi-sama proved much yesterday. I hope our clans can come to an understanding of one another now with his excellent example, and Matsu-sama's repentance later today."

"It was all an unfortunate mess. And it is a shame that anyone had to die at all. I also hope the future is a more understanding one," he says with a nod.

"What was your battle about then?"

"My Grandmother decided to pay me a visit, and I had to put her down. You see, she died years ago during the War of Burned Wings. The Steel Chrysanthemum brought her back. Somehow she made her way into the city."

"I'm sorry that you had to experience that. Such unpleasantness shouldn't be visited upon anyone, having to face an ancestor in battle," he says offering his condolences.

"I am Doji Monkhbaatar, by the way," he finally offers his name.

"Matsu Mogami. And thank you. I fear more unpleasantness is coming. My ancestors where very vocal today. It took all I had to convince them that their viewpoint on the current situation was wrong."

"I've never had a conversation with an ancestor. I suspect they have more important things to do with the Unicorn heading back out again," he says with a shrug. "So I'll not likely get the chance to speak with them either. I'd prefer they stay with my former clan and take care of them on their journey."

"Ah, you are the second former Unicorn I have met here. Where have they all gone? It seems so strange to return to the empire just to head back out again so soon..."

"They've gone to rescue the kami Shinjo and bring her back to us. I would have been proud to be part of that undertaking, but fate decreed that I am now a Doji, and I am just as proud to call them my family now," he says with a smile.

A stunned Mogami just looks at the Doji with her eyes wide, unsure what to say.

"Yes. But she battles an evil force by herself. I don't really know much else other than that. The Unicorn are going to assist her," he says with a nod.

She looks around to see if she can spot a priest.

Failing, she looks back to Monkhbaatar.

"May I ask, without overstepping boundaries...what is the general feeling inside the Crane embassy? "

"I really couldn't say. I am not good at gauging such things. Things were more... open?... with the Unicorn. People simply said what they were thinking more often so most of the time I didn't have to try and figure such things out. I just know that I am saddened by the loss of life."

Mogami bows her head at the mention of death.

"And indeed, it is sad, though they do their ancestors and lords proud. All were steadfast in their Duty. Emma-O will certainly look favorably on them all in Meido"
