I help escort ships from port to port safely and quickly. helping guarantee their arrival without incident." It was usually fairly dull work all things considered, but it had it's perks. "That involves guiding a vessel around or through storms, helping in case of the occasional attack by pirates, and making sure their is enough fresh water so that none go thirsty."

"Is that because of your..." She mentally fumbled for the information she needed to put the right words together. Magic stuff was a big unknown to her. "Your connection to... the water kami?"

She was at least curious.

"Also, ano, this city is very far from any ports Osamu-sama." While she didn't doubt his duties it was odd for a sailor to be so far from the water.

"That would be correct, Kaiu-sama." He replied with a nod.

Osamu couldn't help but smile at her question. "It is at that's isn't it? But shipping also slows in ther winter, There is still the moving of goods among other things, but not nearly at the rate of other times of year. So occasionally we have a chance to serve the clan in other ways. To broaden our horizons as it were."

He swirled his cup in his sake. "Plus touching on a subject from earlier, we're allowed some freedom in selecting our future spouse. But my Lord also recognizes that such is a difficult thing to do from the deck of a ship."

"Oh." OOOOOH. Zakennayo! You stupid woman Maiya. The Crab ducked down and busied herself topping up sake for everyone. The Lion's extra sake order had arrived and so there was still much to go around.

"Your Lord sounds very respectable Osamu-sama. He places a lot of trust in his retainers."

Mogami raises an eyebrow at Osamu for a moment as if assessing him and then takes a small sip of the sake

"Thank you Kaiu-san,"

"Any prospects catch your eye?" she asks blunty

The Crab's eyes widen as Mogami asked such a blunt question. She hastily lifted her cup to her lips so she had something to do.

"He does, Kaiu-sama, but given the nature of our clan, it's also somewhat nessacary." He replied with a mused light in his eyes.

The rather blunt question from Mogami, caused him to look her way and observe her for a few moments. "None yet, Matsu-sama But I am not really in any sort of a rush either. There are a few attractive women around." This was followed by a shrug. "But a match takes more then that."

"I agree, though I admit I would not know what to look for. My family was going to submit me to a nadoka soon, though now that none of my family are left, I guess that duty has fallen to me."

"Aye, I believe you mentioned that earlier." He pickled up one if the pickles from his tray of smacks and ate it. "Though I think that mostly consists of meeting one and stating what you wish to find in a spouse."

"Which I suppose is your problem." He smirked for a moment. "I suppose you could start with what kind of men you like. Do you want someone meek or with some strength to them, things like that."

"Hmm. Much to think about there. What kind of women do you want, Mantis-san? Perhaps hearing your desires will help me begin making a list."

She turns to the Kaiu

"Or yours, Kaiu-san. Any inputs are welcome here!"

If only she could have twiddled her thumbs or blended into the tatami. Maiya gave a brief laugh before having more sake. Only when her cup was empty, confirmed with a little shake, die she set it down and lean back in her seat to respond.

"I suppose I could tell you... it'd be one of two possibilities. Either someone who could beat me in a fight, because then our kids would be strong, or..." She began playing with her hair. "Maybe someone who could spoil me a little and make me feel more important than I am. Something like that." She was blushing by now. "However, I don't think I could tell that to a nadoka!"

Thirst quenched and hunger well and truly sated she stuck around to hear what Osamu might say. I should head back to my room soon. Can't disturb Ama-chan.

Osamu listened to the Crab for a moment before answering himself.

"As for me? Hrm..." He paused a moment. "As I said looks aren't everything, in fact I'd like to avoid someone who is overly vain. If she were to join my family, the sun would hardly be avoided after all, and her complexion would likely suffer from it." Which could cause all kinds of misery.

"Someone adaptable would be nice, or at the very least someone open minded. Likely no one with too high of a position either. " He took a sip of his sake. "It would be nice too if we held similar interests. Like sake for instance."

"Both of you have admirable desires. I think for me I would like someone who would respect my desire and support me in my efforts to do what my father had planned for me. It takes a lot of effort to promote through the Lion to become anyone who leads."

Osamu's humble words lightened the air and Maiya even chuckled at the end. "Sake is great. I'm sure Osamu-sama can find many adaptable maidens who have appreciate good sake." She flashed him a happy smile as she was now positively predisposed toward him and mentally wishing him the best.

To Mogami she claps the table with a fist supportively. "That's the spirit. I'm sure there is someone like that for you Matsu-sama."

She bowed to each of them in the next moment. "I would really like to hear more, but I'm feeling a little tired from the food and the drink. Any more and it will go to my head. Please excuse me. Also, thank you. You've been really good company. You've made my evening actually. I would like to speak to you both again if that doesn't trouble you? If you haven't got more important things to do. If you do, then I'd understand of course." The tall Kaiu woman goes on to say, looking between the Mantis and the Matsu. She waits patiently, trying not to expect too much.

Mogami gives a kind smile to Maiya.

"I would enjoy that, Kaiu-san. Perhaps you could even show me the skill of your smithing. I have a few dents in my armor that can make it uncomfortable to wear for long periods. "

"Just name a time, Kaiu-sama." Osamu replied as he drained his cup. "I'm not so busy that I can't find the time to share Sake with someone or the something similar. Especially when they provide good conversation."

"Hm." She tapped her chin. "I'm staying at this inn if you need me, but I don't have access to a force. I could probably still do some basic armour maintenance or minor repairs if you need it, but please don't expect miracles." Maiya informs the Lion in an apologetic way. "Do bring your armour if you think I can help. I promised the Governor I would."

Maiya gave a more upbeat nod to Osamu. "Maybe I can catch you here again on another evening? Otherwise, ano, where could I leave a message? I would need to give it some thought and check if my kin needed me. Just to be sure I could spend time with you without feeling like I might be avoiding work."

"I have a room here as well Kaiu-sama. So you only need to leave word with the innkeeper, I'm sure they will let me know." Osamu offered in reply, before reaching for the sake bottle and refilling his cup.

Collecting her empty sake cup, she stood up and bowed to the pair.

"Please enjoy the rest of your evenings and stay safe, ne? Sayonara."

She added another bow when she reached the exit to the common room before slipping away to return to her room. What nice company.
