Searching for Slaughter Spirits [EE D8]

Friendship, huh...perhaps its a strange place to look for trouble.

The "where" the governor had indicated was vague, but as she thought about it, Friendship street made the most sense to look for the incoming spirits. Mogami had mentioned that her grandmother's spirit had managed to talk to the guards without anyone noticing immediately. It would make sense if they had filtered into the city and had hid in their respective embassies.

"It's not perfect, but it's a start. Shall we?"

Erina looks at the eclectic group she had collected.

"Thank you Kasuga-san. I truly appreciate your help." Erina offers a smile, only slightly tinged with weariness. It had been a day.

Getting a Tortoise to help in the search was a bigger coup that she would likely admit out load. The stereotype of Tortoise was that they involved themselves with shady dealings, but it was exactly that kind of talent that would serve them well here. Add in the reputation of pure loyalty to the Imperial family, and his presence spoke to a coalition beyond a "The Lions are kicking down doors" narrative.

"Where do you think we should begin? Any surprising lack of vacancies?" Erina seems honestly intrigued.

Seitouna nods. "There've been a few places. I've looked around a bit on...other concerns, and ruled out one or two, at least." He describes the immediate environs of the Lost Battle without naming it, remarking that "My investigations suggest that that area is not...afflicted by such concerns. So we know where we don't need to go, at least.

"As to others," and he smiles, not entirely pleasantly; Erina will see something like her lions' faces in it, "I can borrow a bit from the shisha, with Matsu-san's kind assistance. Because such a messenger is never too far ahead of, shall we say, reinforcements, and knowing that such are coming is...motivating, when it needs to be."

"It truly is a case where the more, and the more varied the background the better." Erina appreciates the smile of a predator, and she gives Ore scratch under the chin.

"If we have no luck here, where would you go next?" Erina offers an encouraging nod. "I have no intention of asking for the advice of experts only to belittle it"

Myo-en listens attentively, her calm face cast into shadow by the broad hat shielding it from the rain. "I have understood there's some cause behind the suspicion that brings us here. If the city has already been breached... where did the enemy appear, exactly?"

That might furnish some kind of clue as well.

"That was my thought Monk-san." Erina bows back. "I hope that you have come to a similar conclusion. Or," Erina's grin is a bit Savage. "A better idea."

"Togashi Myo-en." Myo-en bows, left hand cupped over right.

"But that is the question, Matsu-san. To find a creature's lair, one starts in the place where it was seen and works backward." Her hands settle back at her sides as she returns to an easy but alert stance. "Is there such a place? Do we have a quarry who has been seen, or only a suspicion one might be here somewhere?"

"I confess, a bit of this is attempting to track where they have already been seen and ruling out their base of operations. During the night Matsu Mogami had her belongings stolen until she would duel an ancestor in the Dojo. The Blue Tile room is currently being ransacked. The Crane Embassy..."

Erina stops, the unpleasant events fresh in everyone's minds. "Seems unlikely. We know there is a host outside the city. Kasuga-san can speak to some of the seedier side streets. We are frankly running out of places to suspect."

"Well, then," Seitouna says, "no time like the present. Let's see about talking to some people, generate some leads."

He looks about, finds a likely looking peasant, and says, "Good evening, friend! Perhaps you can answer a question for me, eh, give us a hand with things?"

He approaches with bonhomie. It's pretty effective (Courtier 30 to develop good will).

Erina takes a different tack, starting off with trying to gather anyone who can offer testimony about what happened this morning at the dojo, butbthen pivoting to see if any signs of the spirits could be found: out of place dress, clan members no one seems to recognize or strange family reunions. Anything could spark a lead.

Kayou prays and focuses herself before moving forward to join the others, she bows politely. Her armor is worn and she carries her naginata.

"How may this one best serve?" she asks.

She flashes Myo-en a quick smile.

Technically, she was a monk, but she had come from Lion, and that counted for a lot. "We are trying to find any of the usurpers spirits in the city abbess.

"Is it suspected they are here for sabotage or other ill?" Kayou asks, looking around. "Has anyone said that spirits were seen around here, Matsu-sama?"

(To consolidate for GM convenience, we've got in this thread:
Courtier 30 on Peasants to generate goodwill for follow-up questions to come;
Investigation 30 to elicit information from locals regarding the incident at the dojo and other, similar happenings; and
Eight-Directions-Awareness to be aware of...what all it is that the kiho reveals.)

Seitouna follows up with questions similar to Erina's, asking about people seeing their grandparents all of a sudden, or friends who had passed on.

Myo-en stays mostly quiet as the others begin to question and chat with the locals, dark eyes alert for anything that seems out of place or suspicious. While they ask, she watches, searching with her senses rather than with words.

((Can roll Hunting/Investigation/something if having a separate check for a slightly different approach is useful, otherwise I figure there may be no need to double up Erina's Investigation roll.))
