Just browsing (Day 7 EM)

"Eeeeh it's so busy." Maiya remarked with surprise. "There are even more people than yesterday."

Walking the street and browsing what was on sale had never been this difficult. There were people everywhere. Some were even putting up tents. It was difficult to walk without someone nearly bumping into her or accidentally brushing her daisho. Good that they apologised.

"And it's raining. We need an umbrella..."

A smaller shape follows after the larger Crab. At Maiya's remark, Amaya takes a moment to look around.

She is much less interested in browsing the wares and seems to be simply content with the company of her cousin. The rain washes around the smaller girl just like the people do, but at the mention of it she looks up, blinking into the falling drops.

"See? Help me find an umbrella Ama-chan. We will get really wet soon otherwise. I don't want to have to dry our kimono in our rooms. It's still winter." Maiya chatters away, starting her search for somewhere that sold umbrellas.

"I hope they're not sold out."

Giving no response, Amaya starts to look around, searching for umbrella shaped objects. When she manages to find something that looks promising -- although she can't be sure with all those other people in the way -- the taciturn Crab girl gently taps Maiya on the shoulder with her index finger and points towards the stall she had caught a brief glimpse of.

"Over there? Okay, let's see."

Maiya led the way, using her larger size to good effect.

"Excuse us. Move please. Sorry. Moving through."

When they'd finally cut through the herd she began quickly looking over the nearby stalls.

"Kites? No. Saaa... Oh! Here we go."

She stalked over to a stall that had some umbrellas. There were quite a few people haggling for them already.

"There's a crowd Ama-chan. Bad luck me?"

Amaya follows in her cousin's wake, past the stall displaying kites and to the umbrella one. Stepping close enough to sense her cousin's presence without the need to directly see, she turns back around to observe the kites from where they stopped.

The taller woman sighs as one of the customers gets into quite the haggling match with the vendor. They'd be waiting for a while longer. She glances at her shoulders, which were becoming damp, and then at her cousin.

"Oh, do you see something else good Ama-chan?"

Sending a few droplets flying, Amaya shakes her head. "The kites would not fly well in this weather."

She turns around to lean over and peek past her cousin at the haggling match. "Why do they fight so much over a simple umbrella?"

Standing beside her cousin Maiya agrees with a firm nod. "They'd be pretty terrible in this weather. We would be too if we flew them. Even with an umbrella."

Taking in the escalating haggling, which was swiftly becoming an argument, Maiya shrugged. "I don't know. The Yasuki handle commerce. I just pay the price displayed. The prices are pretty clear on that stall."

"That is how it should go." Amaya agrees. "Simple and quick. And much more quiet."

Nodding in agreement the taller bushi is slowly losing her patience.

Finally, after a few more moments and spotting the noisy man didn't have any weapons on him, she interrupts. "Oi! Just pay already or move on!" Maiya shouts loud enough to cut through the exchange. "Some of us are getting wet!"

The man scowled at them for a second before recognising they were samurai. Then came the usual apologies. Maiya just ignored him and brushed past the lot of waiting peasants to speak directly to the stall merchant.

"One umbrella." She quickly follows up by pounding the table with the necessary coins to pay for it.

Amaya just follows once again in her cousin's wake. She did not really mind the haggling madman as such herself, but he was being quite rude to the merchant and holding everyone else up.

Her cousin might be acting a little pushy right now, Amaya muses. Is Maiya's anger burning so hot right now, despite this freezing cold rain or because of it?

Threading an arm out, the smaller Crab points at an umbrella with a simple dark blue design highlighted with some stylised clouds. "This one?"

"That one." Maiya concurs. Stretching a hand out for it she hefts it up and proceeds to test it against the chill rain.

"Yatta. It works. Okay, good then."

She steps back with her prize to let the others snap up what was left. Holding the umbrella aloft she gestures for her cousin to seek shelter under it with her.

Beginning to walk away she scratches her cheek with her free hand. "Those were my last two coins in my coin purse." She admits with growing embarrassment and dismay.

Amaya joins Maiya underneath the freshly acquired umbrella. Looking up, she examines it for a moment and after seeing nothing immediately wrong with it, she turns her attention back on the rest of the world.

"I still have some coins." She absentmindedly informs her cousin.

"We'll probably need them. I don't think I can get an advance on my stipend this far from home."

Raindrops repeatedly impacted atop the umbrella. It sounded like some small monkey was repeatedly tapping away at an even smaller drum.

"Is there anything you want to see this morning? You're not usually up so early."

"I will hold on to them then." Amaya reassures her cousin.

Maiya's question makes the smaller of the pair look around and finally up. "I would have liked to see a good sunrise, but that has not worked out."

She turns her attention back on her cousin. "We could inspect the defences here. If they let us."

"Let's go in the afternoon or the evening then. It's not monsoon season so this rain should have stopped by then, ne?"

She was of course wrong. However, it did explain why they went in the evening later that same day.

"Shall we just browse what's on offer today then? I've not got anything else to do. You too, desho? Sorry about the sunrise Ama-chan."

"Okay." Amaya agrees simply. It does not really matter too much, when exactly it is done.

"It's fine." The younger Crab is willing to wait for better weather. "It might be interesting to see what the people here are interested in. This place is very different to what we know."

"So... find somewhere to stand and watch from then?" Maiya asked, checking if she understood the gist of Amaya's suggestion properly. She quite enjoyed people watching so it suited her.

"If we can find a nice place with some elevation, that would be good. Otherwise there is no point and we would do better just wandering around as well."
