"Damn." She felt pensieve. "Yes, when I was playing Yasuki Junior #2 in my younger years. I thought it was a Crane custom they kept." She sighed, then slowly inhaled. "I do not have much of a choice now, do I, Doji-sama?"

She sighed, and placed her palms in hers. "My greatest regret is that my death will not be dramatic."

"Tell me, Sara-chan, what do you want most out of life? What is the one thing that you would sacrifice everything else to achieve? What do you want?"

"Oh? No death poems allowed?" Sara smirked, though she was nervous. This was strange. Her palm was sweating.

"My place in the histories as the greatest actress of our generation, as I deserve."

"And what if I promised you that?" Suiminko's expression turns serious, though there's a faint upturn to her lips. "A staring role in the greatest plays across the Empire, Empire-wide praise from the Crane on your performances, no matter how much you stumble over your lines?"

She raises an eyebrow. "Do you care about the performance, or do you care about your reputation? Would you take on a great role, even if it meant that nobody would every know?"

Sara tiled her head. "Doji-sama, I am Scorpion. I am aware of the dualities of my talents. I am here, neh?" Her hands seemed to relax, slowly easing into the Crane's hands.

"Why would you offer me such an option? Are you just teasing me Doji-sama? My bosom is aflutter, if you are teasing me before my death, I will haunt you I promise." Her hands might have calmed down, but her heart beat faster, much faster.

"Your death?" Suiminko's smile widens. "I am not threatening you. What purpose would that serve?"

She slowly taps her thumbs against the back of Sara's hands. "You have made a mistake, that is true, but I don't believe it is a mistake worth punishing. Perhaps we can simply... forget about this little indiscretion of yours. That would make you happy, would it not?"

"It would calm my soul, hai." She tried slowly turning her hands over, to touch Suiminko's, though not pushing if she preferred to keep hers in place.

"What would make me happy, is to hear more of your voice. And that offer. A performance to be remembered?" Her eyes sent out a small glare. "And I do not stumble on my lines. Nor do I require praise for effort not done. If I were after that, I would have slept my way into my fame. I had offers."

"I'm sure." She allows Sara to move her hands. "I can make use of your talents, and I am very good at making certain that my agents get what they want. However, a samurai cannot serve two masters."

She regards Sara in quiet for a moment. "So you must decide, whether you wish to pledge your loyalty to me, or whether you wish to remain loyal to the Scorpion."

Sara slowly traced her fingers over Suiminko's hands.

"That is wisdom." She eyed the Crane in front of her, thinking deeper. "You ask me to forsake my birth clan, and serve...you? Be your agent?"

"Think carefully," the Imperial Advisor warns her, her tone light. "This is an important decision. There should be no room in your heart for regret."

Sara tilted her head. "May I request time to make such a momentous decision?"

Suiminko shakes her head. "No."

After a moment, she withdraws her hands from Sara's.

"Life is full of difficult choices, Sara-chan. Leaving this room without making a choice is a sign that heart is not ready to fully commit. And I have no use for those who do not know what they want out of their life."

Sara slowly withdrew her hands. This was a big decision.

ON the one hand, was the Underhand. Her clan. Her family. Her daimyo. She was nurtured growing up, pushed forward for her talents. Recognized. Taishou Hikari. Her home.

On the other hand, there was this. A woman who saw through her cunning disguise. A woman who saw what she did, and gave her an offer.

It was not an easy decision. She realized this. It might be an exceedingly difficult one even. She might die as a traitor, if she makes a wrong choice.

"I accept Doji-sama."

But she was an artist, and her heart grew at the mention of such a performance.

Suiminko nods in approval. "You will not regret your choice, Sara-chan."

She stands and clears away the tea cups, returning with a bottle of sake. "Something to celebrate your freedom? Hopefully it will be more to your taste than the tea."

Sara waited in patience to receive the sake, unsure of her next step. How strange it was to make a decision under Crane make up!

Suiminko pours two cups of sake, sets the bottle down, and raises her cup up in a toast. "To the first steps of fame!"

Suiminko drinks her sake, as well, then she returns the cup to the table and leans back on her hands, watching Sara with an amused smirk.

Sara placed her empty sake cup on the table, and looked to the Crane. "Yes Doni-sama?"

"Just pleased is all." She shrugs her shoulders, though the smile does not leave her lips. "But perhaps I have kept you too long. I know that your schedule must be busy."
