"Once a Dragon forever a Dragon, even as a Lion." Degarashi shook his head slowly. "I'm not sure what I used to be or what I did to come out looking like this." He gestured at himself.

Degarashi raised an eyebrow at Ren, forming a very distinct impression about this particular Lion. "So, what's your opinion about having to flee Toshi no Omoidosu?"

Degarashi nodded. "I agree." It was a simple opinion, but he was still waiting for the other optimistic shoe to drop.

"If I weren't inclined to agree I might question my own sanity." He puffed out a breath, looking out over the walls again. "I can't help but wonder if we'll be repeating this cycle of battle and retreat." Degarashi nodded upwards, towards the sky. "At least one ominous thing seems to have taken a fancy to us."

She nodded, "A considerable amount of favor has been pouring down on us for quite some time... Starting to wonder if it thinks the bad guys are allergic to water or something... Because if it doesn't stop soon we'll all be swimming out of here."

"Water heals. It washes away the dirt and grime of a long march. And it slows down armies. Even the most disciplined Akodo must take care when marching through mud and ice. I can only imagine the havoc iyer wreaks on the disorganized masses of Toshigoku. But," he glanced skywards, "it's highly visible, and any benevolent intentions could be lost in the attention of our enemy. They might start thinking we're important."

Degarashi gave Ren a flat stare. Then he realized she was serious, and he sighed. "I'm not used to it, unless that attention is to point out everything I'm doing wrong at a given moment."

"Oftentimes not. I do what I feel I must, how I feel I must do it." He pondered continuing on the same concept, but thought better of it. "The rakugo performance was a notable exception. It went over far better than anticipated."

"I do, yes. Four days ago was the first time I did a larger production not associated with my schooling, however." Cracking jokes right before an assault on the gates. Very in keeping with Degarashi's character.
