Sparing little time for the bustle at the gates, the weary surgeon took it as his duty to report the situation as he understood it to the powers that be. After taking a half-breath just outside the embassy gates to steady himself and check his appearance.

Then, after entering, he began the process of searching for someone to introduce him to the responsible authority.

At his side for moral support was a Daidoji samurai-ko. Tetsuko has seen it as her duty to make sure that Koushi reached Nikesake to provide his report. Once they were inside she hung back a pace behind in defence to his higher status.

The highest ranking Crane at the embassy proves to be Kakita Airi, a young courtier with about as much social cloud as Tetsuko. She welcomes them to the embassy and arranges for a servant to fetch them tea as they sit down to speak.

Doji Koushi responded to the welcome with a bow of respect. Such a fraught post at such a young age was an achievement, or possibly a punishment. That would need to be determined.

"Good morning, Kakita-sama. My name is Doji Koushi, and I was the designated physician of the Crane delegation to His Imperial Majesty's winter court. This is Daidoji Tetsuko," he said, gesturing to his companion, "a puissante warrior and connoisseuse of excellent tea. We have seen a great deal in the past week, and I thank you for your hospitality."

"Think nothing of it," she replies with a friendly smile. "Everything is so turbulent as of late, it's the least I can do to try to bring some civility back to the world."

He glances at Tetsuko.

"Ah, as to the turbulence, I saw from the tents that word must have reached you about the incidents at Morikage Toshi and Toshi no Omoidoso. We were interested in learning how things have been here. Is the city preparing adequately for the attack? Is there some way in which we could make ourselves useful in that endeavor?"

She bowed appropriately and followed up with: "Hai, as Doji-sama implies, we have experience of fighting the spirit forces, so we would happily share our knowledge."

She wondered if this was the extent of the Crane forces here in Nikesake.

"I can only imagine that we are preparing. The Lion have certainly been busy." She sighs and takes up her tea cup, sipping at it. "I am not a part of the process, unfortunately."

"That is perhaps understandable, given that this is no longer an allied city." He paused to set down his own teacup.

"The enemy will be here soon, however, and the usurper's army has not shown itself to discriminate between guest and host. Are we preparing for the defense of the Embassy?"

She gives him a concerned look. "Is that a concern? I had been assuming that the Lion would hold the walls."

Koushi nodded slowly. "It is rather a large army that is coming this way, Kakita-sama. The Lion will hold for a while, I am certain, but it does not hurt to prepare. Quietly, of course."

Airi is quiet for a moment as she contemplates his words.

"There is wisdom in your words," she finally agrees. "I shall make preparations to fortify our embassy. If the worst comes to it, perhaps we will be able to hold out until the Imperial Legions arrive."

At the gates of the embassy, a horse comes to a halt. Hopping down from Meushi, the former Unicorn turned Doji moves to the gates and shows some paperwork to the guards there.

He is let into the embassy and makes his way to the meeting room. He is shown to the door by a servant and he makes his presence known to those inside with a scratch at the door as he had been taught. Apparently people didn't like simply announcing yourself and walking through doors uninvited.

Airi motions to the servants, who open the door for Monkhbaatar, quietly announce his arrival to the group (very carefully pronouncing his name so as not to get it wrong), and direct him to a spot nearby. There's a tea cup in his hand as soon as he manages to find a seat.

Before taking the offered spot and tea, Monkhbaatar bows to those present. "Aplogies for interrupting. I was given leave by my lord to aid in the defense of the Empire. He required that I check in with the embassy here to get a situation report before rushing off and doing anything foolish. He barely knows me, but apparently understands me quite well already."

Koushi returned the bow with one of his own and a warm smile.

"How fortunate you have arrived, then, cousin, as we were discussing that very matter. My name is Doji Koushi, Daidoji-san and I have just arrived from Toshi no Omoidoso."

"I see," he says with a nod, finally sitting. "Then I will listen for now."

"Kakita Airi," she says, introducing herself. "I believe that we should be able to fortify the embassy somewhat. Was there anything else of importance that should be discussed?"

"Merely that at Toshi no Omoidoso we found that the Lion responded quite well to overt cooperation in the face of the enemy. I am not suggesting that we elbow their garrison aside with our embassy staff, but any conciliatory gestures we might make would undoubtedly be well received."

He paused. "Whereas they have been somewhat jumpy about those who seem to edge away with the conflict. You know, in that special way that the Lion clan has."

"This one is Daidoji Tetsuko, and I am pleased to meet you Doji-san." She gave Monkhbataar a polite bow.

There was a small smile at the comment about the Lion but her thoughts shifted to the talk of the Crane Champion. She gave Koushi a significant look but kept quiet for the moment. He was the ranking samurai here after all.
