Degarashi turned, regarding the inquisitor as he approached. Few had never heard of Kashiwagi, and the slayer of shogi had been referenced only a scant few minutes ago as it was. So, using what he understood about the man from common knowledge, he bowed deeply. "Hai, Kashiwagi-ue. This humble one held a small rakugo performance earlier this very day, hoping to uplift the spirits of those within the city."

"It seems we have similar mindsets, Scorpion. I’m working with your clan to put on a play myself, an original work. Shosuro Sara, or something to that effect. She is an excellent up and coming actress and playwright,” he responded.

“Hopefully it will lift the spirits of the people. Given the praise of your peers, it might be worth your time.”

"Chigau, chigau," Horonigai shakes head, explaning, "That wasn't the intention at all, Yogo-san. Don't be mean to me." There's a light giggle and she completes her point, "I especially enjoyed the final play. If you allow me to contribute."

"Ah, Sara-sama." Degarashi nodded. "A rare flower among the Scorpion, I've heard much of her talents. She may yet be one of the most visible personalities to ever grace our clan." He traded a glance with Aya over that, then glanced to Horonigai. "A moment if you will, Kashiwagi-ue? It appears Seppun-sama wishes to remark upon my final act from earlier."

And he turned to regard the Seppun, awaiting her commentary on his work.

In that awkward silence that takes place, Horonigai blinks a bit. Her previous commentary was actually, rhetorical.

Suddenly, in the darkness, something inside the Seppun's princess torso starts to move.

"Her stunned silence has said enough, no words can convey what her silence could," Kashiwagi praised.

"It would be unkind to want more than what has already been given."

He then added, "I am saddened I missed it, although I spent my afternoon speaking with a true master of the sword and student of the Kenku, Togashi Iko, you may have heard of her."

Horonigai twitches her body a bit sideways, looking rather uncomfortable. She tries to adjust the outer rim of the many layers of her traveling clothes and whimpers a bit.

A bit stressed with what was going on inside, she replies to Kashiwagi –– perhaps forgetting she was mad at him. "You would have liked it, too. I'm sure."

Then, he mentioned Iko. That caught her attention. Horonigai puts an arm across her chest, as if hugging herself and holds her shoulder. "Togashi Iko-san. Hai. The Kenku student."

Degarashi watches Horonigai's discomfort briefly, studying as much as he could without shaming the poor girl with his interest. When the Asako offered her escape, he nodded quietly. "One could never hope for higher praise than that."

As the pair began talking about something concerning kenku, Degarashi shuffled closer to Aya, mouthing words more than speaking to her. "Wonder what that was about."

Aya's eyes narrowed at the suddenly stilted conversation of the Seppun.

There was a small shake of the head for the actor. She actually had no clue what the two nobles were up to. But it wouldn't be the first time a high ranking inquisitor fell into the darkness he pursued. She didn't have much left after the morning's fight....but she still had a ward or two if things went weird.

Degarashi noted Aya's sudden wariness and nodded, sidling back over to the Imperial and the Phoenix, tapping beside his eye and ear with a finger.

And things do get weird.

Horonigai's eyes widen as if in pain, she grits her teeth a bit, and a crawling black creature filled with black flur and long sharp nails sprouts from within the gap in the middle of her clothes. Its eyes glow in the dark as it approaches her neck. The dark creature licks her cheeks, leaving its stickiness marked on her face.

Kodama blinks, and then waves at the other monks to press forwards.

It rarely paid to interfere with odd Imperials, who likely knew exactly what was going on.

Degarashi barely manages to avoid pulling a knife on Horonigai, but his tension after the sudden arrival of the cat is noteworthy. He does sigh in relief, however, before moving back over to Aya.

He gives her a pointed stare, glances at the Seppun, then back to the Yogo. "Nope. Way too easy."

"I'm sure there will be ways for one to release the stress of a march" Homura smirked, amused at the not subtle hint at all from Misaki "personally I would welcome a nice warm indoor bath at the same heat as the Onsen in Toshi no Omoidoso. That would be wonderful right now" she stretched, keeping her umbrella still while she did so "all this marching through icy weather is enough to tire us non-war veterans out."

"Un!" The Imperial nods, taking Kuchihige with up and turning the feline around for the rest of the samurai to see. "Konnichiwa, Kuchihige-sama," She greets the cat with the sweetest voice.

Taking his paw, she waves it to Kashiwagi in the same fashion she did a coupe of years ago, but keeps the greeting she used before only in her mind. Horonigai also provides a tiny bow with the cat in hand for the two Scorpion as well.

Aya's scowl deepened. She still wanted to crush the girl with a giant boulder...but it had now become less legally acceptable to do so.

But she was damned if she was going to hang out with that walking manifestation of bad luck.

She bowed to the group.

"Apologies, I just remembered I need to ask Matsu-sama something pressing. A pleasure to meet you all."

she glanced at Degarshi wondering if he'd take the opportunity to make his own escape, but she was about to put some social distance between herself and the Seppun.

Without so much as a snarky expression on her face, Aya began to retreat from the Seppun as she flashed her bushy cat at everyone around her. (See? Too easy) The Yogo looked genuinely troubled, which probably wasn't a good sign, so Degarashi made some token gestures and comments to the Seppun, the Asako, and the cat, then followed after Aya expression curious.

"Something bothering you, Aya-sama?"

He watched the Scorpion leave and then turned back to the march, well that was that.

"Yeah. Indoor bath, sounds good. Could always find a way to heat the place up if it's not warm enough for you."

She looks over everyone gathered. "How many of these did you make fall for you already? They'll be disappointed now that I'm here."
