"Their laws have a great deal of overlap. Similar crimes and penalties, though the penalties for crimes are rarely the same as they are in the empire. Their laws are also slightly less complex given that their social structure is not quite as complex in some regards. They have no classes of society like heimin, samurai, or kuge so there are no laws that focus on such ideas. They still have lesser and greater people in their society but it is purely based on the merit of their actions and how those actions help or hurt their people."

"It's a spicy stew, made with root vegetables and strong spices. It's sometimes made with poultry, fish or tofu added. I had it a few times, produced by cooks in the employ of Mantis traders. I've had it without yam, but I personally found those recipes lacking. It's mostly about the spice, with other ingredients adding only mild flavors, but able to absorb the other flavors. I'm not a picky eater, but I've found I enjoyed curry more than most other meals I've had. When you are used to minimal rice and roasted vegetables with minimal seasoning, that dish tastes like it comes from an entirely different world."

"That I don't know, but I would guess so. They have spicy foods in the lands of Southern clans don't they. Scorpion food can be pretty spicy."

"Have you not visited the Matsu lands? They have a fondness for spicy food as well," says Kayou. "Sadly, the life of a nun does not allow much of an opportunity to enjoy such."

"I have not. Most of my youth was spent in Scorpion lands. And while I was present in areas during the War of Crossed Pincers, I did not actually participate in the war. I dedicated my life before joining the Piranha to helping the heimin of the Scorpion. It wasn't until after the riots and rebellions that I moved away, volunteering during Broken fangs. I didn't get to eat anything fancy during that campaign, despite the number of Matsu present."

Kayou grins. "The Matsu are not very good at sharing. If this one can come to visit you, she will cook a traditional Matsu dish for you, Rtuuta-sama."

"I'd appreciate that," he says with a nod. He figured going into a line of questioning about Matsu food and how she could cook it would be inappropriate. Probably from her time before joining the Brotherhood.

"I've heard that the Unicorn have strange foods as well. I wonder if they're spicy eaters too?"
