Wasako smiled sheepishly at her previous suggestion. "Well...maybe not a kenku. I perhaps only mentioned it because of the garden and its fabled origins. Perhaps a goose is just a goose?"

She looked around the surroundings as if trying to see beyond the baths. "They should be due back this season, right?"

"Good chance they'll avoid all the people around here", he said, not hammering on the issue but leaving the implication open.

"Isn't there a saying about not having the sense that Gobai gave a goose?" she mused. "Still, if they're not careful, they'll end up as rations.

"I suppose there might be much that would scare them off..." She murmured pensively, there were a lot of refugees here. "It is strange that a goose would be the talk of a town this large, it seems more befitting of something back home actually."

Aya looked curiously at the Dragon woman.

"There are many tales of geese in your home, Wasako-san?" she asked, curious to hear about this.

"Not many, actually...but with other animals. There are some days are so uneventful that anything can become a local legend. You would hear tales about a particular goat wandering the hills or about a mountain cat mother who was wandering the village in search for her cub...or that time when old Tetsuo added more sugar to the rice cakes. Very exciting stuff back at home but I thought things in the bigger towns would be more...sensational?"

And people have thought Norikami to be a country bumpkin...he supposed that was normal for Dragon though.

"I'd say such stories are more familiar then exciting myself. The sort of things you come across in most small towns." The Mantis replied as he slipped deeper into the water. "Which might be why it's being passed around like it is."

"With circumstances as they are, people need things a bit familiar and a bit silly to keep their mind occupied."

Aya thought about that.

"Hm. I've lived both out in the farmlands, and in the...second biggest city of the Empire. I suppose the big city gossip is maybe more sensational, but even there people try to make their small corner of the city feel like home. Neighborhood characters can be as interesting or as dull as old Tetsuo. The rural life was at least calming for awhile." Aya mused.

She chuckled at the thought and nodded. "I don't mind hearing about a goose, to be honest! I suppose we are here with other samurai who might have had similar 'exciting' going-ons at their home. They bring a part of themselves to the community and perhaps this goose is actually an incarnation of a combination of ideas, put into one bird. Perhaps I'm just more surprised that there are still many things that are quite familiar away from home, such as this onsen and even the smells...I had thought that most baths away from home would be indoors with lavish facilities and personal baths."

"Threy usually are, but the Phoenix are a mountain people too", he offered. "Makes sense they'd build a more airy, elementally involved onsen... rather than a fancy bathhouse."

She nodded soundly, "I could see that. I'm sure there are a share of mountains throughout the Empire too. I am told that the Crab value the mountains too but I don't know if they actually live in them. Perhaps they are more common than I had originally thought. How about in the Scorpion lands?"

"Flat in the middle, but the north and east are mountainous, Soshi and Yogo lands mostly", he said. "Though the Shosuro's norther border reaches the small passes of the Seikitsu toward Lion...er...Unicorn provinces."

"I'm not an expert on these things either, though I am pretty sure not all Mountains produce Onsen though, or at least not regularly," He glanced between the pair, they seemed to get along fairly well together. Maybe they knew eachother fairly well? "I've never really heard a Crab going on abut his home towns Onsen after all."

"If i were the Hida, i'd take my relaxation very seriously, and not tell anyone about it to keep outsiders from visiting", he said to Osamu. "There's a lot of territory in the Twilight Mountains, probably a natural hot spring somewhere in the northern part of their territory is my guess."

"Of course, likely not all mountains are made the same, even in the Dragon lands," she nodded at that before shifting in her seat slightly, it wasn't always comfortable sitting on rocks. "Would people go all the way to the Crab lands just to try their baths? That said, I wouldn't mind trying a regular bath house either if I get the opportunity. Hopefully, they don't demand too much for patronage."

Aya shrugged a bit at the turn of discussion.

"As they say, the walls of Kyuden Hida are very hard, but the pillows are very soft." she muses.

For the most part she was content to let Noribaka flirt with the girl, but their Mantis partner seemed to be meditating.

"There's an this inn south of Beiden called The Dove's Rest. It's in a forest growing out of of the mountains and you have to take a winding path to get there so you'd never see it from the road and there's no sign for it on the path, you'd just have to know where you're going. When you get there though, it's a tall building, four floors with a glossy black roof with a bell tower, all the wood is painted red and there are golden Fu Lions guarding the entrance. The place has a pleasant, sweet jasmine scent that wraps around you from the bath house steam. I recommend highly, but your lord will have you thrown off a mountain top when he sees the bill for it."

he chuckled a little, ah memories.

Wasako looked curiously at Aya's words, wondering what she meant by that. What did soft pillows mean exactly? Was this something the Crab were known for?

"I'll keep it in mind if I ever travel that far south, Bayushi-san," she smirked faintly at the idea, although little did she know that she would be travelling involuntarily later today. "I think at best, I would be able to admire it from the outside. My budget is minimal, admittedly. I could hardly afford rice cakes, let alone grant luxuries. They are likely wasted on me, anyway."

He almost shrugged, but didn't want to send that kind of message. Instead he looked at her pointedly.

"Luxury is only a waste if it becomes an expectation", he said seriously. "Even this bath in the rain is a luxury, there's a horde of screaming treacherous villains out there who want to bring an end to us because we don't agree with the rule of their murdering leader. Every second of life is luxury when you look at it like that. It's never wasted on you."

he looked down and grumbled a little, shit did he hate being serious.
