A courtier would have found a nice non-direct way to answer that. Asking a Yogo that question tended to net a much more direct and graphic answer.

"Hm, something so suffused with the power of Jigoku that it was hard to tell if it truly used to be human or not. Looks like a tentacle tree, moves liked a greased snake, crushes multiple opponents with powerful tentacles, reanimates it's dead victims. Resistant to weapons, but extremely vulnerable to fire."

She grinned a bit.

"I'm sure a bunch of refugees walking about in the dark and the rain would've been quite the feast for it."

"Jigoku? Here? How did it get out of the south?"

She frowns deeply, her On shaken.

The Yogo mere chuckled at the Matsu's shaking.

"Well that's an excellent question, Mogami-san. I doubt it took a boat up here. So, that leaves two more likely possibilities. Someone from here calling upon the kansen to an incredibly heavy degree....or there being an open portal to Jigoku lying about here somewhere."

She shrugged.

"If we're lucky, it's the former, and it's finished. But I've never been one to trust in luck. It seems unbelievable that there's an open portal somewhere but then again, Lion lands are pretty vast, so somewhere deep about in the wilds away from the cities? It's not impossible."

Mogami shakes her head in disbelief. She had heard some rumors about an incident with Shiro Akodo, but would never mention any such rumors to someone outside her own clan.

"Have you informed the Governor of this? Such a thing is a grave concern..."

Aya shrugs.

"Not directly, but I reported it to my superiors, and given the Lion clan were aware of our activities, I'm sure he's been briefed on it, and will inform those who need to know."

Of course, Mogami hadn't been informed, so it was possible she was not on that list.

"However, my assumption would be that trying to evacuate a city from an already otherworldly army, he probably doesn't want to pile on, 'Oh, also the forces of Jigoku are also running about free, so be sure to look out for that.' to the general public." she offered.

For such a grave threat, the Yogo did not seem overly concerned about it.

"From time to time, when there's a need for such talents in the lands of the Scorpion. Sometimes monsters sometimes angry spirits, sometimes it's just an ox in a really bad mood." she admits.

"First time was this weasel with sickle hands that traveled via whirlwind. Weird critter, the sickles had this numbing agent on them so you didn't feel the cuts when they landed. Weirdest still, it only attacked men, and it always went for their shins. Pretty sure someone ticked off Sakaku for that particular manifestation."

The Tortoise listened to the governor's address from the balcony area above the main floor, puffing lightly on a polished iron and black lacquered bamboo kiseru as he leaned slightly near one of the railings to hear the contents of the speech. He nodded his head along as the list of names and accomplishments was noted by the governor, and at each named he looked both at this level and at the court below to see if any of the names mentioned were in attendance. A much stronger puff from the pipe occurred from his lips as the meat of the discussion made itself present: that the city would be evacuated and that those not in the defense were to leave not even at first light but overnight, as quickly as could possibly be.

Evacuation? Mmm... at least I will have time to pack everything this time, he thought. Better than the circumstances that led to his arrival here, at least. And as the speech finished, the various Lion began to approach the governor for this-and-that, and the others in attendance murmured among themselves, Asakuro continued to watch from above, lightly puffing away...

She motions gently to the room around them

"Unfortunately, it is my understanding that talking about such things in the presence of others is considered....dis-favorable...though I am not a courtier, only trained in the basics should I be able to promote to the path my father set before me."

"It's that way for not entirely stupid reasons. Talking about it tends to increase paranoia and panic...and in the worst cases encourages people's darker tendencies."

She grinned a bit.

"But you asked, and I would hate to lie to someone who was just lauded a hero of the Lion in a Lion court."

Mogami is in her armor and therefore not afforded the luxury of her kimono pockets to store her courtiers fan, and thus has no way to hide her blushing face at the words.

"I am no hero, Yogo-san. That titled should be given more to those who fought on the ground than protected by the walls. I admit to being the best archery of my school in a century, as a credit to my sensei and families instruction...but anything else is false praise."

"I mean, it might be amusing to tell some stories, even if I lack bland-san's talent for it. But really if you want to lead, the best skill you can develop is finding people you can trust who know what you need to know, and then listen to them when they tell you what they know."

Aya and the Matsu had very different ideas of what they were talking about.....at least Aya thought...then again, lecturing a Lion on how to lead seemed particularly stupid.

Not being very courtly, Aya decided to just power forward.

"Sure Mogami-san, we can talk about it when we reach Nikesake." she replied honestly.

Aya shakes her head.

"ie. We were out hunting a different monster entirely. First time out of Scorpion lands. It was our ill-luck to be caught up in the wave of refugees coming from the Winter court. Our travel papers were in order, but the Lion guards escorting them were rather insistent that we come along......Hm, with this evacuation, we're going to be even further out of position. May need to find an Emerald magistrate to get some updated travel papers. I might not be a rage filled returned spirit, but it's still a better idea for your papers to be current when in another clan's lands. A misunderstanding could be....unfortunate." she said, thinking about that for the first time.

"Norib.....Norikami. Bayushi Norikami." she said, catching herself. As amusing as it would be to have Noribaka put on his travelling papers, it'd be a pain if they had to fight about it at every checkpoint.

Aya nods.

"Essentially yes. Not a very capable one perhaps, but he is the one my lord saw fit to assign me, and so where I go he goes." she confirms.

She gestures to the empty space near her where a yojimbo would go.

"More or less. I assume he hasn't left town."
