Degarashi stood not far from the city walls, in an area not readily seen by many of the guards. This seemed to be as much because of their interest in looking outwards as it was a matter of positioning. Nevertheless, he waited patiently, eyes casting about every so often, searching.

For some reason he was keeping the rain off of him with a vibrantly colored umbrella.

Seitouna has gotten his straw cloak out of his pack and is wearing it as he makes a strangely sure-footed way to where Degarashi stands looking out. He's got a small sack with him.

Offering a short bow, he says "Quite the view, neh?"

Degarashi smiled, returning the Kasuga's bow, causing the traveling pack upon his shoulder to briefly hang open, revealing its contents: a handful of arrows, medicinal packs, and a length of rope with a hook. A bow rested against the wall behind him. "An excellent view indeed, Kasuga-sama. I've been preparing to observe it for some time now."

Behind the smile, lines of worry cut paths across the Scorpion's face.

"Have you eaten, Bayushi-san? It is hard to stand a watch without it."

Degarashi nodded solemnly. "I have, Kasuga-sama, and hope you have as well." He glanced up at the skies. "Unpleasant day for a chink in one's armor, neh?"

"There's never a good one, of course, but the cold and rain make things worse."

He looks out.

"I take it your friends are making their test."

"Somewhere out there, yes. Looking for," he glanced at the tortoise meaningfully, "something."

Degarashi shivered, though whether it was wholly from the cold was unreadable. "Far beyond the realm of my expertise."

"Anything in particular I need to know about the particular armor that's being tested?"

"I have little in the way of detail, but a friend is applying his specialty currently. I can suspect that, should retreat be necessary, the fortitude of those largely responsible for the armor may decide to tighten it further, rather than relax it."

Degarashi rolled his shoulders to keep warmth moving through them. "It is little more than a vague suspicion at best, and I do trust my friend's expertise, but I take comfort in preparation for the worst, at a time like this."

Seitouna nods.

At least the deck's not pitching, he thinks.

"There's not much I can do with a bow, if anything. The rope, though, I can be some help with."

He looks out again.

"These friends of yours would be kin to you?"

"One, in a most immediate sense. The others in a less immediate sense." Degarashi thought of his brother, outside the walls, facing down some unknown threat. It was not unusual for Yukinaga to march off into danger, but Degarashi had never been so close to the place where his brother might fall. The experience was sobering.

A figure slithered into view nearby, deciding to do some looking outside the walls of the city... Only to encounter two new humans. They seemed to be talking about something, though, so she simply bowed.

Seitouna is about to reply when the Naga arrives and bows.

Almost reflexively, he returns it.

"Naga-san?"

It is a novel experience.

"I am the Saravya. I'm sorry to interrupt," she replied, dipping her head. Her tail shifts and moves behind her.

He eyes the Saravya somewhat warily, unsure what to make of her.

Degarashi blinked in surprise, then bowed hastily. He'd been vaguely aware that a number of naga were within the city, but had yet to meet one. Hearing the stories was not the same as encountering someone so evidently female attached to a long, intimidating serpentine tail. The effect was pronounced.

"Greetings Saravya-sama. There is..." Degarashi shared a glance with Seitouna. "Nothing to interrupt here. Kasuga-sama and I were simply having a discussion."

She coiled the serpentine appendage under her, settling onto it like a seat. "Ah, well. Please feel free to continue. I simply wanted to observe the area."

Degarashi raises an eyebrow, but nods. "Where were we, Kasuga-sama? You were asking after my friends and their need for armor, neh?"

Seitouna nods.

"Indeed, yes. And I have done some probing of my own, finding no real chinks in the armor in which so many here trust." He shrugs. "Perhaps it is simply that I have been unable to see it, or I have been looking in the wrong places."

Seitouna looks down into the city.

"I have found some places where what the armor contains is perhaps chafed somewhat, and I have tried to apply an ointment to at least one of them, as well. Whether it works, I cannot say."

"Better to apply the ointment and see to the needs of the armor than allow it to rust, I suppose." Degarashi sighed. "Still, unusual to find a set without a chink within it. How competent were the armorers?"
